Re: reaching up 63-70 degrees celsius temp!

For your initial question since you have been checking the heatsink and have not reported improved performance I have a suspicion that it could be the PSU supplying too much voltage to your CPU.

If you get everest and navigate to the overclock menu it will provide you with the voltage your CPU is currently receiving. It shouldn't be receiving more than 1.372V and the PSU shouldn't be supplying more than 1.5V down the CPU line. If those values are fine then I can only suggest that its bad air circulation.

Then on a side note... I thought you might want to know that your current setup as you described won't be using more than 500W of power. Check this site out> eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5.

Its pretty accurate, I have tested it with the 2 PCs in my home. Something that might help in the future when you upgrade

i am running orthos for a blend stress test (CPU and RAM) and TAT to see how it works on the temps... i reseated the HSF and im very confident that i fixed it great but to no avail... i am still having a 47-50 degrees celcius temps (big difference on the first one though) on idle mode.

and whenever i tried to load orhos to perform the test it goes up to 65-67 degrees celcius. it reli confused me... coz i am certain that the HSF is fixed. one more thing... when i tried to play CRYSIS to see how my rig performs, it DISAPPOINTS me! coz every now and then it freezes even if i chose optimal settings! and the XFX geforce 8800GT 512MB is so noisy when i am playing CRYSIS for... say, 5 minutes? any idea?

thanks for the link man! i'll give it a try.
my PSU is supplying more voltage than my CPU can take? how is that?

Re: reaching up 63-70 degrees celsius temp!

    1. Ambient temperature can make a huge difference to your cores. I did a test yesterday with the aircon off (24C ambient) and on (19C ambient). The difference to Core1 was a whopping 14C! Obviously it depends on your setup (mine was built for silence first, not heat dissipation), but I had no idea that the difference could be so large.

    2. Couldn't find a review of that exact PSU, but their 660W model was slated by several sites. Apparently it not only failed to supply the stated voltage, but all the claims about efficiency etc., were true for 25C, with the unit performing much worse in the real world. I hope this unit is better, because that one sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

    1. much of thanks. i am running my rig on a well ventilated room with split type AC, so i can tell it is not reli the ambient temp that contributes the heat.

    2. can you give me the links of those ACBEL PSU reviews? thanks!
