omgz! the same drive is £36 on ebuyer. Just gotta get NAS sorted then I can do this!
Edit: so I probably won't get £30 for my seagates...
Quick hijack (sorry), but I am thinking of holding for Nehalem too.
1. Does anyone know if the TRUE work on the 939 motherboard?
2. What is the cheaply can can I get a 9600GT/8800GT, 8800GTS/9800GTX or 3870X2 these days? I've not really had the time to shop in the last two months, so I'd like to see how the price/performance has changed since.
3. How much are DDR2 memory these days?
With Nehalem on the horizon, I need to decide whether to go ahead with my major rebuild or hold or stick with my current PC. I did get to play with a PC I helped my friend with, and yes, it would be nice to upgrade my Opteron.. but I think that I can hold half a year if I make my current PC quieter and a touch faster (by swapping the heatsink and get a GFX card/Accelero combo) and some DDR RAM on Ebay. I would also need to sell off the IP-35 Pro I bought 2-3 months ago at a loss though. The only problem I have with holding for Nehalem is that I bet DDR3 memory will crash in price 1-2 years after it's release as it did with DDR2 (and I am definitely not holding that long). Oh yea, how are the Penryn faring in overclockability these days?
TRU will fit 939 but not AM2 without a bolt thru kit, TRUE won't but will fit AM2.
8800GT, 9600GT, 8800GTS, 9800GTX, 3870X2 are 90-100,100-110, 150-160, 190-200, 220-230 respectively. You can get them at their lower prices when they come on special offer at times
DDR2 is like 30 or less I think for 6400 or 50 for 8500 speeds in 2x1GB.
1. It fits, but it "requires the retention kit which is not supplied and can be purchased seperately". Its already expensive enough with out that and having to buy a fan... Just for got the ninja or infinity instead
2. 8800GT is slightly about £110, 9600GT is about £100, GTS £140, GTX £180. Not sure about the 3870x2. Either way wait a couple of weeks for the next gen
3. Cheap still. I got 2GB for £21 from these forums
If you can hold off do it. I couldn't
You can upgrade graphics now as it can be transferred over
moogle, I just realised my psu won't power a quad AND my 9800gtx together... so now I have gone back to the E7200. They can hit 3.8ghz quite easily so should be better than the quad at 3.6ghz... and I will save £40...
Do we reckon it's worth getting the E7200 over the E8400?
Theres only £40 difference in price and the latter gives you a bigger cache and comes set at 3Ghz as oppose to 2.5
hem hemm... is that a jab at my quad there
It depends if you need the cache or the cash. If you're not gonna encode or do cache intensive tasks then save the cash and get the E7200. If not spend that extra cash and you'll recieve your extra cache back.
Kidding aside I would go for the E7200 and overclock it. If it's the same core Wolf-thingy then it should be able to clock well.

Well sort of
But it was also a jab at my potential quad.... but from what I read here it won't make much difference to gaming... You might have more 3d marks than me moogle, but are frame rates in games will be almost identical as most games are restricted by gpu
I didn't get it for the 3DMarks
But as long as you get your setup and are happy with it I'll be happy
I won't be upgrading till Nehalem too, maybe not even then so sticking with the Quad is okay I suppose. My Dad goes to USA at the worst times don't he
e-peen, 3dmarks, its all the same
Hopefully I will be happy with it. 99% of games don't use quad yet, and that probably won't change much before nehalem. This way I can upgrade to nehalem when the E7200 starts bottlenecking (which could still be 2 years!)
Yeh, you should stick with the Q6600, don't bother with Q9450... this will do you for the next 2 years until nehalem is cheap
Sure an OC'd Q6600 will do for games for ages, the GFX is the bottleneck for now.
Unless your encoding video/compiling/rich as hell you won't be buying/needing a Nehalem.
Lol I'm still gonna get one though, just cos I can....
well I suppose I will let my bonus after my first year of work decide
nice bonus = nice nehalem system
Lol....
Good for you...
I have to work weekends to buy all my tech cos I'm still a student...
I only get bout £40 a day so it takes me ages to afford anything good...
I just finished uni now... I worked full time last summer... that funded my year of spending
If you get a decent summer job, you won't need to work throughout the year
