Coming in about 10% faster then my 18 months old 8800gtx.
The 4870 is going to have to be a monster step-up if they are planning to compete with nvidia any time soon..

They don't need to compete with Nvidia on performance if they keep thie prices fair from launch.
Given that this is the lesser of the two new cards and should be pretty cheap I'm actually quite impressed. Of course if they try at sell it at 200+ they can get on their bike
If they are no where near nvidia on performance, then the low/mid range nvidia cards should still be competitive on price.
In fact that card isn't much faster then a 8800GT and you can pick those up in the US for under $150, this card sold for the equivalent of $210. Doesn't sound like the bargain people are expecting TBH.

seems to be about £110 in HK, should bump up to a about 130ish me thinks...
No biggy, pretty good for a mid range card if u ask me..
Me want Ultrabook
I'd say so, I don't do 3D mark etc.. but as was said it's about 10% faster than 8800GTX/9800GTX score's I've seen. I'd be happy with that at £130 or less
looks like these GFX cards might actually be worth upgrading to from the 8800's, sorry water cooling you will have to wait again
I have had a few ATi cards and I have never had a good time with their drivers. I think I may stay away.

I'm the opposite, after the problems I have with nvidia drivers the ATi ones seem wonderful.
But there's not much point worrying about historical problems - drivers and game compatability will only be an issue if the cards are equivalent performance for the same price.
I had problems with my x800 graphics but it turned out to be the mobo lol.
My current card is the 1900xtx so its time for an upgrade and if this is out at 110 then hopefully the 4870 will be good

Sounds like a good card if your on a tight budget...
Still I'm hoping that the GTX 280 will have a better 3D Mark score than that ^^
