    Graphics Card And Motherboard Combo?

    Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of upgrading my computer so I can play some of the new games coming out. I'm looking for a new graphics card at the moment and a new motherboard - my current only supports AGP. I don't want to spend a huge amount of money, because I'm only a student, have a car and bike to run and was looking at buying a new set of golf clubs soon.

Can anyone recommend me some kit that would allow me to play the likes ok Unreal Tournament 2007 and Call of Duty 4?

    Much Appreciated,
    Steven

You're pretty much going to have to upgrade CPU,RAM and Mobo at a guess.

    What do you have now?

    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 2.20GHZ 3500+
    Ram: 1.25GB PC3200 ram - quite old

So do you think I would need a new CPU and ram to go with it?

    I have no idea!

My power supply - 450W - (bought when I last upgraded) has started making a loud buzzing sound, it think it's coming from one of the fans. It's pretty dam annoying lol.

Just get the HD 3850 AGP card, it'll play those games well.

Great card as that is for AGP it's just more money wasted on what will eventually need to be upgraded.

You can do CPU, RAM and mobo for £110 - £120 and then whatever graphics card you can afford after that.

    Is that OK budget wise?

That sounds quite good, the cheaper the better.

To be honest I think I would be better upgrading everything. My power supply is making a weird buzzing noise. I took it apart and found out it was the fan vibrating against the casing, I then accidentally touched the chip while moving the fans and gave my self a 230v shock

My case is also very old, could do with a whole new computer if I'm honest. Would it be cheaper buying everything separately or as a package?

Would be cheapest to purchase all the components and put it together yourself

How much are you able to spend and when you say everything do you mean everything inside the case or absolutely everything including a screen as well?

I've got a 19" widescreen LCD which is fairly new, it'll do me for the time being. Everything inside the case including the case really. As said, I want to spend as little as possible. I've only got about £450 at the moment (paid in 2 weeks) but I don't want to spend as much as that.

    Thanks for your help.
