    Zalman CNPS9700 Problems (Q6600)

I just finished building my new PC. Which consists of a Q6600 95w edition, Asus P5KE, Corsair 4gb DDR2, Corsair HX520w, XFX 7600GT XXX (to be upgraded to XFX 8800GT), Samsung F1 500gb, and Vista Ultimate retail edition.

I decided to go down the aftermarket cooler route for my CPU straight away. And since i had the Zalman 9500 AM2 on my AMD 4200+ X2, and it did a good job, i decided to buy the Zalman CNPS9700 NT for this one.

And it has "4-pin PWM fan for automatic fan speed control based on CPU temperature".

Therefore i assume the hotter the temperatures are, the faster the fan will spin. However it seems to be running at top speed....as i can hear it. And my temperatures are showing up as:

    Core #0 - 32oC
    Core #1 - 31oC
    Core #2 - 27oC
    Core #3 - 33oC

And i dont understand why its running so fast. Too loud for my liking, my 9500 had the fanmate and was silent, and even when on top speed it was barely noitceable.

    HELP!

Do i need some sort of software.

I havent installed my drivers for the motherboard etc yet, going to do that now

It's a shame you went with that cooler as there is better HSF's for less out there but nevermind.

In the bios do you have fan set to adjust automatically or 100%?

    Ok.

Il take a look again. Its pretty noisy, and it shouldnt be. I checked all available places last time in the BIOS but couldnt see it.

Will update in a bit once iv got everything hooked up.

    Re: Zalman CNPS9700 Problems (Q6600)

you'll need to look in your BIOS for the CPU fan control and ensure that it is set to PWM (pulse wave modulation) for this fan.

I've used the bigger brother (CNPS9700NT) in several builds with QX9650's and they generally run at 27 deg C at stock speeds when at idle and under 60 deg C under full load, but always very quietly when configured correctly. I understand that the Q6600 can be a hot processor though

    Re: Zalman CNPS9700 Problems (Q6600)

I got it turned down. Its quiet, obviously temperatures have jumped up around 5/6oC

But saw no option for PWM.

The options were optimal, silent or performance.

    So hmm?
