Must resist.. badge.. snobbery..
It is a good price but I think there is a little bit of a size issue though, this is a little bigger than what could be considered "sub notebook"
difficult one as it isn't a bad price assuming the battery life is good.
Even though it has Advent on the case I would imagine it would be a case of advent sending the units back to msi if they fail. Personally whilst at uni years ago I bought a cheap advent laptop to tide me over and 6 years down the line its still going strong with no problems what so ever
If you were to compare the size to something like a Vaio TZ (newer TX) they would probably be similar. Obviously the MSI has a massive price advantage but I'm not so sure about the size.
Someone posted a picture of it compared the Eee and the difference seemed very noticeable.
tbh the eeepc is crap for long use, the keys are tiny and after an hour your hands kill, we have them in the office and tbh I think the MSI Wind would be better due to the keyboard size.
I was thinking more along the lines of the acer one or Dell E, I wouldn't go for the asus due to the keyboard and I do think the MSI is a touch too big for this game, I'd rather buy a proper laptop with a 12" screen.
a detailed comparison (video and pics) of the msi wind against the Acer one and eee 901 at this website
just an head up for everyone who planning to buy the Advent from PC World, the 5% discount code works for reserve/collection as well, just ask the staffs
I was going to buy an EEEPC but went with the Advent 4211 in the end. The Advent feels much more sturdy than the EEEPCs I've tried. It feels more sprightly when running XP and the keyboard and screen are a joy in comparison.
On the downside, the 3 cell battery of the Advent is only good for just over 2 hours. I'll probably get a 6 cell when they're available, though I haven't been limited by the 2 hour life yet. It's bigger and slightly heavier than the smaller EEEPCs.
When it comes to small laptops you can't have everything, but the Advent is close in my opinion, and it's a steal at this price. I've been able to do some serious work on mine. I think it's more useable than my 15" laptop because of its portability and I think I actually prefer the smaller keyboard when out and about.
I'm not a fan of PCWorld but I like being able to try a system before buying. I probably wouldn't have considered the 4211 if I hadn't seen it in real life.
A touch screen tablet that's a little smaller than the 4211 (but staying with a 10" screen... and without Vista) would be my ideal device. I don't think it will be that long before an affordable one comes along and that's another reason that the price of the Advent appealed.
I'd recommend that anyone looking for a laptop for 'basic' tasks look at the Advent.
... I use now a big vent for the whole machine now, but I cant use it forever, it is my grandma's ventilator...
