Have plugged Hardrive back into its normal home and windows (XP SP2) can't see it.
Have checked all cables (IDE + power) are properly connected, am I forgetting something really stupid?

jumpers?
Is it in the correct IDE slot (master, or slave)?
For goalposts?jumpers?
Only joking. I haven't changed anything on the hardrive itself, plugged it back in exactly where it came from with the same cables.
Not sure how I'd check this...Is it in the correct IDE slot (master, or slave)?
Have you pressed the cables in fully?
does bios see it?
try the "other" connector on the IDE cable (there are 2, one in the middle and one on the end)
make sure jumper are set correspondingly (master or slave) should be a sticker on the drive itself showing you how.
Does it work in the Pc you tried it in before. You could have simply broken it!!!
Hope that he has not, that would be very bad luck.
On that note tho, my brothers HDD is on borrowed time (having disabled SMART, as the mobo would stop, and say BACKUP and REPLACE)
Sure that it will last a while yet though
But.., I do hope you have not broked your HDD, or else some expensive data recovery could be in order...
check in ur mobo bios thats its been detected init
U need to check in disk managment if it needs initializing and see if a drive letter needs to be assigned to it.
Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Managment
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I have recently purchased a new 500G hardrive for a new build I haven't got around to building yet, so as my current rig was already somewhat in pieces I decided to format the new HD, which meant removing the one currently not working.
Once it had finished formatting, I replaced the old HD which then magically worked again!
I can only assume one of the cables wasn't quite all the way in, but anyway, thanks again for all the helpful suggestions
