Hey there
Just wondering, do any of you know any good guides on building a pc?
Text/image and videoes would be great
thanks

I don't know of any imparticular, just have a look on youtube, there is loads on there from when i have looked before. It's fairly self explanitory, i just learned from reading the motherboard manual, although it can be daunting.
Corsair System Build
The Corsair one above is pretty good and includes loads of useful photographs.

It's fairly easy and if you buy decent makes of components you get comprehensive guides with the components.
If you want to learn ahead of time then you can download a couple of manuals in pdf format and read them. For instance download a case manual from silverstone and a motherboard manual from ASUS and between them they'll cover all aspects of building a PC apart from installing the operating system.
Thanks guys.
Saw the corsair one a few moments after i posted
Got antec case (300 - cant find a decent case, going to get a better one when i find one, its cheap, and good, thats why), corsair 520w modular, asus p5qe, and thats the main things i need help with, installing the mobo and wiring.
The Antec 300 isn't a bad case .
To be honest, installing the motherboard probably wont be the hardest thing. All you need to do is ensure you're careful when putting it onto the case. Don't force it or anything.
If you've never build a computer before, then I'd probably say putting the CPU into the board will be the hardest part. If you put it in the wrong way, or force it in any way.. you'll almost definately screw it. The CPU must always drop into the socket freely. There is an arrow on the base of the CPU and the same on the board to show you which way to put it in.
Wiring is incredibley simple aswell. There is two for the mobo, possibly one for your GFX [If you have one] and then its just the ones for any case fans and the drives.
Just remember to take your time. . Never rush, especially as you're new to it. Once you know what to do and how to do it, its a piece of cake.
Ive never built a pc before, i know, i wont rush it, will do my best not to force anything in, most (if not all) go in one way, so thats good, know how to install the hd's,gfx',ram and optical drives, just wiring and the cpu/hsf im not happy
Your motherboard manual should describe fitting of CPU, CPU Heatsink, Memory, Add on cards and all Power and data connections in a good amount of detail.
If you have any confusion on wiring it'll be for things like case front panel audio or USB to motherboard connections as often motherboard connectors and case wires have different descriptions for the same connector. But you can always ask on a forum like this.
My advice is to follow the instructions carefully, give yourself plenty of space to work in and allow plenty of time. Add on cards, CPUs and Memory sticks will only go in one way round - the same goes for all power supply and fan connectors. So you'd struggle to force anything in backwards!

Yeah its abit like lego, my problem was using the wrong screws at first to fit the motherboard which took time to correct. Other than that easy
The hardest bit is repairing it.
Building it only means you take time and have patience. Don't hurry, as then you increase the risk of doing damage to components accidentally.
When touching components you could ground yourself, to stop static from you burning out parts...
Other than that, it's pretty selfexplanatory. All the screws go in the right places, the mobo sits in the case on spacers, the CPU tells you which way round to go, the GFX RAM HDD and CDD/DVDD all have only one socket which they'll fit into (or rather: one type of socket) and the manuals help a lot.
The HSF was always my biggest problem tbth.

What do you mean by reparing? TRoubleshooting/fixing it if it doesnt work? << If its that, im worried about that.
Attaching the heatsink/spu im worrie, they are expensive and never done it before, but mobo to case, depends how hard, its screwing in some screws, so should do well
Thanks guys
Troubleshooting and fixing.
The nice people at Scan will help you if you buy stuff off of them though.
Don't know about other companies. Misco just replace whatever you send to them (it seems) and I've never had a problem with them either.
You'll have to fix it yourself, but it's normally just a matter of replacing faulty stuff with working stuff... easy enough I suppose.
Think of it as needed maintence. And don't get upgraditis.
And you have to have an internet connection if you change any hardware after you've installed Windows. It has problems with you doing that, and requires reactivation. Otherwise it.. does something. Don't know what though. I was going to find out.

PCStats have a fairly decent walk-through as well. I'm not allowed to post full URLs yet though LOL Just Google "PCStats assembling PC" and it should come up. I also find the CPU HSF the hardest part, but I'm only onto my second build so...

Thanks
Got everything of scan, will be using a second hd from my current pc, the dvd drive and the tv card. Hopefully i can get hold of 64bit windows (legal copy) by the time it all arrives, but the guy is on holiday :/ - dont know when he comes back. Until then may use windows xp pro or hopefuilly the install cd from my dell laptop works
