    The Dell Vostro 1510...

I bought this very recently from Dell - and there's one thing that's seriously wrong with the laptop...

I touch type, update websites, and do IT support therefore the position of the right shift key, and the / and backslash \ are Very important for me. The Dell messes with the default position and size of these keys!!!

Note how the left shift is longer than it should be? note how the right shift is smaller than it should be, and they've put the \ next to it!

    Argh!!! WHY DELL WHY!?!?!?!?

Sad day really, that a laptop that offers excellent value for money, great performance, and good overall design is ruined by such a stupid mistake to make!

Perhaps if I complain they'll send me a replacement keyboard with the key on the left? In my opinion it is faulty.

Also, can anyone explain the Vista power settings? It came from Dell set to "Balanced" which was battery CPU min / max 5%, 50%, and mains min /max 5%, 50% - does that mean that no matter what happens the computer will only use 50% of the CPU, even when under load?

I've changed it to the performance setting which is min / max 5%, 100% for both battery and mains.

Absolutely hate when they mess around with the keyboard layout.
Another thing I hate on the new keyboards is the smaller enter key or a small backspace key

I was just googling that today and what it is, is that it will limit your CPU to that load. I'm not sure how it does it but 100% will use alot more power than 50% but you get more performance. There was a link to a doc file by microsoft explaining it but it's turned to a 404 page now.

    Re: The Dell Vostro 1510...

I never bother with balanced. If it's plugged in I either have it on full power when the battery is charged or power saver when its charging (else it takes forever!).

Unplugged power saver with whatever brightness suits. It's slower.. much slower but tolerable with my specs and most other's I've tried.
