    Upgrading Video Card

Ok i have NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS and i want to upgrade to the Geforce 8800 GT. One would it increase my computer performance significantly and second would it be quieter? Cause i want to upgrade my current computer to a silent, fast computer and also without it overheating if i leave it on overnight.

    Re: Upgrading Video Card

Might as well get the 9800GT.

It will be quiet.. depends what so consider "silent" I guess. Performance wise it will knock your socks off

There are passive HD4850's in the works though.

Yup, without a doubt you'll see a massive improvement with an 8800gt. (You should consider the 9800gt)

As for sound I have no idea but seeing as most are single slots, they'll probably relatively quiet although an option would be to get an after market cooler (something like the passive Arctic cooling).

    Re: Upgrading Video Card

i have an 8800gt and on the stock cooler it runs at 30% which is quiet but very hot... at 100% you have lift off lol... but what i did was get a akasa vortexx neo cooler, even for someone like me it was easy to install and lowered my temps by about 15 degrees... plus at 100% its not very loud and at 50% its silent ...the card plus the cooler is about 130ish, oh and btw yes the performance increase would be alot

They've got those small fans so they wont be quiet and cool, best to get a dual slot or an aftermarket cooler on those.

    Re: Upgrading Video Card

The passive HD4850's are about on scan, but they run a good 70degs idle. Have a look at 9800GT's and possibly GTX's certainly, can be cheaper than the 8800's in some cases.

    Re: Upgrading Video Card

bfg one seems better and the rebate is bigger. Got any links to those cards so we can see the clocks? If the BFG has a faster clock speed get that one. EVGA allows you to overclock your card without validating warranty though so if you're gonna overclock your card too then get that but the BFG is still cheapest after rebate.

    Re: Upgrading Video Card

well there's a couple of ways, knowing what you buy and put in your pc is a good way

But seriously download CPU-z and GPU-z
With CPU-z you can find out info on your motherboard, memory and cpu
GPU-z will let you info on your graphics card.
getting info on your power supply is tricky, normally the only way is to open your case and look at the stickers on it.

Well 1 way is to know what you buy

The other ways are like Pob has said. You can find your CPU, Motherboard and Memory with CPU-Z alone.

If you're stuck just click the About tab in CPU-Z and click the Save Validation File. Click the link in the Step #2 section and upload that file. It's pretty small so it'll be quick. Then the page should take you to a page where all the info is displayed. Just copy the link of the page and put it here we can tell you what your specs are. Like Pob has said finding your PSU make and model will warrant an opening of your case. For your Hard Drives you can find them in Windows. Right click on your drives and go properties and click Hardware. It should say the Manfacturer name and the Model.

But I'm sure it'll be easy for you seeing as you're buying the GPU so you'll be opening the case to install it

Pay attention, he posted a link to frys.com and has quoted prices in $ so we can pritty safely assume he's in the us not the uk

Also you'd be better off with the old 3850 as that's better than the 4670 and costs about the same, but the 9800gt is better than both of thoes
