Re: PC won't turn on after microsoft update

That's an interesting idea actually. It could save me a trip to Scan, or maybe it could just mean I can whizz there with the PSU and not have to worry about repacking all the motherboard and cpu and stuff..

Would this work?
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...t15&doy=search
(it talks about P4 and stuff so it sounds a little old)

And if that one is no good, can anyone suggest one that I might be able to buy locally from somewhere? I don't think I would want to spend more than about £20 or it wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks, I decided I won't get one because I can go to Scan with the components and if they are faulty I can hopefully get them swapped there and then. If I tested the PSU I would have to post it back or something and it would take longer, so I may as well do it this way. It will save me £20 too.

Re: PC won't turn on after microsoft update

Just thought I would upgrade this thread as well. I got my HTPC all up and running happily now. It is great!

In the end, I took my stuff to Scan and the fella tested it for me. They have a nice little workbench for testing stuff so it only took him about a minute to find the problem. It turns out that it was the motherboard which died! So I got a different board (that one was out of stock), and now I have it all up and running great I am very happy with it and the temperatures are good too. It's extremely quiet, getting around windows runs very fast, the sound and video is amazing, and overall it's just great. So happy ending =)

Excellent acrobat, delighted that everything went well for you in the end. I must say that I think Scan are a terrific company to deal with,

Many years ago I bought my first DVD player from them, a Scan SC-2500, which is still in use and has never let me down.

regards
