Max Screen Resolution

I have a PC hooked up to a LCD TV Hannspree 32" JT01 VIA a DVI to HDMI cable.

In the manual the Max supported resolution is something like 1366x768 @ 60hz

However with the PC plugged in I can set resolution to 1900x1100, I currently have it set to 1768x1000 @ 30hz, could this cause any damage to the screen? Or is it because I am plugged into the HDMI (not VGA) and the TV supports HiDef?

The Reason I'm not using 1366x768 is that through the HDMI connection the picture doesn't occupy the Full width or height of the screen by about 1 inch on each side giving me a 29-30" TV.

I doubt you'll damage the screen, but personally I wouldn't like having to look at a 30Hz output for long..

your using a nVidia card so im not totally sure what options you get or where - but there should be an overscan adjust in your card settings somewhere that will get rid of the borders.

Its the PC on my Sig, so ATI3850 on Linux

welll that scan listing looks totally screwy
it lists the tv as 1080i which is 1920x1080 @ 60hz or 50hz

however check it as "High definition" also covers the older 720i which is only 1280x720
if you try to put a signal into a monitor that is higher resolution than it can do then all that should happen is it'll go blank and you'll get a "no signal" or "Out of range" message.
(you then have to get your resolution output back into range without a screen output)

which it should revert to automatically after 20 seconds (at least in XP) as long as you don't press anything!

I have a Hannspree 37", though an earlier model (YT something I think) And I get the same issues. Most of the Hannsprees won't actually accept a signal at their native resolution, which is a bit of a pain. Fortunately the scaling is quite good, so as long you are not using it as a monitor you can use all sorts of resolutions. I have found that 1280x1024 gives a nice sharp image, and that changing the aspect ratio of a movie from default to 16:10 in VLC (which I use for all formats) returns roughly the right aspect ratio on screen.
Setting a higher input resolution (like 1920x1080 - which will work) won't give you a better image on screen, and sending it less frames per second (you mentioned 30Hz) will reduce your picture quality for sure.
Oh, and I can't see you damaging your screen, but at the same you are gaining nothing from setting odd resolutions.

It won't damage the screen but all your really doing is scaling down that higher res into the lower native resolution, however your gpu still has to render that higher resolution which means you're basically getting less performance to display the same resolution.
