When will more companies jump on the 1.5tb bandwagon?!

Self explanatory title - just wanted to know if anyone has a timeframe for when more will be released as internal drives, as it would drive down prices of the 1tb hard drives!

    Thanks

I haven't heard any other companies announce upcoming 1.5TB drives but I don't think it'll be too long before others follow suit, I did read about Seagate planning to release 2TB drives in 2009.

I keep waiting, thinking 'the drives will come down in price', and then they release a bigger one that I decide I'll wait for instead Will I *ever* get a hard drive?

Re: When will more companies jump on the 1.5tb bandwagon?!

I'm still surprised at how affordable the 1.5TB Seagate is. The newest generation of drives usually retail for over £200 or even as high as £300 when first released, especially when there is only one manufacturer offering that capacity. Look at the 1TB drives, it took them months to drop below the £200 mark. Granted they have plummeted since, but that's mainly due to higher density platters making them far cheaper to produce.

Scan are doing the 1.5TB for about £140, this is down about £10-£15 from when they were first listed and they've only been available from stock for the past couple of weeks! It's amazing. So much so I ordered one on Saturday to start the upgrade from 5x500GB to 5x1.5TB in my Thecus N5200Pro

Just wait for the 2TB drives to come out.
I guess it is probably just the typical tactics to get people to buy as much 1.5TB as possible, then when the 2TB come out the same bunch of people going to buy loads of 2TB drives.

Well it's a bit late as I already ordered the first 1.5TB drive.

When are the 2TBs slated for?

No date has given for 2TB drives (none that I'm aware of), Seagate announced them coming in 2009 along with SSD's for enterprise customers.

Re: When will more companies jump on the 1.5tb bandwagon?!

I was checking the price of 1.5TB drives in Asia and I could find the drive as cheap as £92!!!
Just sit tight and wait for the price to drop
