    Is my system stable?

    hello,

Due to issues with using 4 sticks of RAM, I've been forced to set my RAM speed to 900MHz. I decided instead to tighten my timings to 4-4-4-12 and 1T, rather than 5-5-5-15 and 2T. I've also lowered the voltage to 2 volts rather than 2.1V. My system did 6 hours of orthos without a single problem. However, it totally failed intel burn test. When I configured the test to use 0 memory, it was fine. When I set it to use only 25% of the memory, it failed again. So it appears obviously to be a memory system issue.

Should I trust orthos (haven't run memtest yet) and say it's stable, or should I keep experimenting?

EDIT: I have tried raising the MCH and DDR voltages to 1.44 and 2.1 respectively, and it hasn't helped. I think the timings I chose are just too tight?

    Re: Is my system stable?

Can that RAM run 1T? Very good DDR2 1GB modules can run 900MHz 4-4-4-12 but it's not a dead cert. It doesn't matter anyway it counts for next to nothing. Stick it at 5-5-5-15 and get it stable

    Re: Is my system stable?

You will be very lucky to get almost any DDR2 to run at 1T especially at 4-4-4-12 and 900MHz.

If you are failing Intel Burn Test then you are not stable, try 4-4-4-12 2T and see if that is stable, if not as Mike says you will not really notice any real difference if you have to run at 5-5-5-15.

    Re: Is my system stable?

I had issues getting even 2GB of Dominator PC8500 to run at the advertised speeds, it simply wouldn't do it on any motherboard. It wouldn't surprise me if Corsair were using chips that could just about manage the advertised speeds/timings. Start a thread on the Corsair Care section, Yellowbeard is a helpful chap. I have no issue running 4x1GB sticks of Ballistix PC8500 on my IP35 Pro....

    Re: Is my system stable?

should be able to do 4-4-4-12 2T, the ballistix sticks can do that at 1066 speeds.

    Re: Is my system stable?

    hello,

Thanks for your help guys. I'm trying out 2T right now.

BTW, I am using Dominator modules. Aren't these modules supposed to be specifically picked for their higher performance?

Not sure but they should be good and up to the performance of the Ballistix ones and the higher end rams.

    Re: Is my system stable?

They are designed to work at the speeds that the sticker says so 1066 5-5-5-15 2T the likely hood is that the dominator sticks will run faster than the XMS2 but the real difference is the heatsinks which may or may not improve performance.

    Re: Is my system stable?

    hello,

I've tried, and it still fails at 4-4-4-12 2T.

I may have to settle for 5-5-5-15 after all.

BTW, in the BIOS there are settings for about 5 other DRAM timings. What are these? They were all set to auto.

Well maybe you've not got a good clocking pair then :/
It's not guaranteed but it's luck if they do clock well. You could increase the DRAM volts a 0.1v if you wanted to and have good ram cooling though, as I'd think they'd get hot. The other timings are for more tweaking, usually just setting the first 4 is enough.

    Re: Is my system stable?

They aren't anywhere near as good as the Ballistix you have Moogle, as they don't use Micron D9 chips.... But still, they should do 1066 5-5-5-15 AD-15, and if they don't you should contact Corsair and get it sorted out in my opinion.

You got a same set too?

I was always thinking the D9's were the single sided sticks, not these hot beasties!

    Re: Is my system stable?

LOL what e-peen do I get for OCZ Flex DDR2-1150? Although currently running at DDR2-1000 as my FSB is 500 and my only dividers are 1:1, 5:6 and 5:8 which give me DDR 1000, 1200 and 1600 guess I could push for 1200 just not tried, I unfortunately have 4 sticks but one set take 2.3v the other only 2.1v so I'm limited to 2.1v if I want to use all 4 sticks, and they are all stable at 2.1v DDR2-1000 so that's where they will sit for the moment

    Oh it all depends
That ram and your case is worth big amounts of e-peen
It all deteriorates as the newer hardware comes out and others have better stuff than us

That WC setup is good for your peen too

I'm using 4 sticks, should they still be able to hit 1066 at the latencies you mentions Gste?

They should do, and your motherboard should be able to handle it. What voltage is your NB at?
