I tried the keyboard recently and it isn't a full-sized keyboard as you would expect. As long as you don't touch-type or have smallish hands and do touch-type you should be ok. I did find that the travel on the keys was very short and not to my liking even though I use a laptop and laptop style PC keyboards

Pricewise - don't think the price will fall that much by then as these products and suspect it will probably have a higher spec for the same price. So start saving now and not have to worry about debt come July

I used the sammy and acer again today and I'm having a hard time justifying the samsung based on just the keyboard. They aren't that different really, in terms of they way I have to type on them anyway.

The battery life is compelling but thats about it.. £120 worth?

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Well as the samsung NC10 can be got for £300 and the acer for £200 it's not £120 difference and that's a 512mb memory acer not a 1gb one which is £220 (but you can get 2gb SODIMM memory stick for £25)
And the acer has a smaller screen.
You can get a bigger battery for the acer but that's going to add £60 to the price
So if you consider £220+60 then you're only paying £20 for the larger screen on the samsung.

Both have a 10" keyboard with a good layout (all the keys in the right place not in odd/annoying locations, nothing worse than haveing the Fn and Ctrl keys swaped over)

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Prices have gone up everywhere I can see (with stock) to £320/£330.

512Mb is all you really need for basic stuff anyway..

I just don't see the benefits as strongly as I did having used them both today. For me anyway.

    Eeep so it has

EDIT: 512mb should be ok for linux not for windows, maybe ok if you reinstall with an nlite'd windows xp 512mb would be ok.
The atom is really not that good a cpu, stutters a lot when loading software ok once it's running.

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

I don't have trouble with my centrino 1.6 and 512mb, well nothing that I'd be too worried about anyway.

I will see if I get one. Looking at the dell again now, the prices have gone down a little.

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Should of said there's a marked difference when my eeepc is plugged in (on auto speed) or I switch it to high cpu speed.

when in low power mode I'd say it's about the same as my old p3 700mhz laptop

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Planning to buy a netbook, probably the NC10, for my wife. She's v keen to use MS Office. All the reviews I've read focus so much on web and email that none of them really mention anything else. Any experience of how MS Office runs on one of these Atom-based machines?

    Many thanks

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

i have Office 07 installed on my Netbook, and it runs fine. MS Office isn't a highly demanding program though.. but i have 2GB of RAM in my NC10.
so i think that it'd probably run a lot better than it would on the 1GB ones.

just don't expect the programs to open fast or run like they would on a PC with a much more powerful CPU and most things will run just fine.

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Same here, I have the NC10 with the 2GB of ram in it. It flies along for what you need it for, these days though I tend to spend most my time on the NC10 leaving the gaming machine to sit there and gather dust at present. It's taken everything I have thrown at it so far, currently have steam installed and it handles games like peggles, darwinia and defcon etc very well Once this thing is hooked up to a tft its a dream to use with vs.net 2008 and dreamweaver/photoshop
