it was my original plan, but i picked it up for £240 so not bad. Plus a full £151 rebate on my q6600 so its only costing me 89 quid! (plus some crucial ballistix in my attempt to hit 4.5 on the cheap). You're still on the ole dual core mate?
Yeh, one of my mates q6600's bust on an overclocking extravaganza so i RMA'd it and got 151 quid back. He's agreed to have my q6600 in the meantime, so im keeping the cash- putting the extra towards the q9650
Anyway i think im turning this into a hijack, so i will let mikes thread return hehe!
Lol I'm pretty sure it was done before I put it in the oven.
As SIM said.. I know what parts to buy really just finding it difficult to make a choice.
Saw the Lian Li PC60F case on Scan yesterday, I want one. How about that instead of the Antec Solo?
HTPC1 - Coolermaster CM330, E2180 + Zalman 9500AT, GA-P31-DS3L, 2x1Gb PC6400 , Antec Earthwatts 430w , Fujitsu 2.5" 40gb HDD, 8600gt, Hannspree 32" LCD TV - Kubuntu 8.04
HTPC2 - Silverstone TJ-08, Asus 690g, Athlon LE1300 + OCZ Vanquisher, 2x512mb PC5300, Dell 350w PSU, Fujisu 2.5" 40gb HDD, 8600gt, Toshiba 33" CRT TV - Ubuntu 8.04
Laptop- Lenovo T41, Pentium M 1.6ghz, 768mb PC2700 RAM, 40gb HDD - Ubuntu 8.10
NAS - Dell Case, Jetway J7F5 Mini-ITX, 1gb PC5300, Enermax Pro 82+ 425w, 1TB Hitachi - FreeNAS 0.69 on 256mb CF
Thinking I might get the CM-690 on ebuyer.. Not sure though.
Lian Li is a touch pricey but it is nice for that price.
Right, purchase day is tomorrow (assuming parts stay in stock etc..)
I have the choice of the typical intel E5200 build with a 9500GT or
I'm inclided to go with this.
Note: I'm buying from ebuyer atm.. since EVERYTHING apart from the DVD drive is cheaper.. Works out £25 both with free del.
So crucial ballistix RAM instead of corsair
Intel might go in the coolermaster CM-690 but probably the Antec Solo.
AMD is going in a P180 mini due to the board being a decent uATX.
The PSU is down to one left on ebuyer.. but I can get that from scan. Tempted to swap it for a 400w non modular enermax or corsair tbh..
EDIT: It just went out of stock

Same price on scan.. just the hassle of two deliveries.
Lol it's hardly small though is it.. massive for what it is. But since the intended user wants this as a second PC and already has a P182.. seems quite fitting
Should be easy to cable anyway, too easy for the likes of me
Well as you want low cost and while I don't know the full requirements for C++ you seem to be going fairly low spec.
Akasa Zen. £30 decent cooling, nothing massively high but would you need it?
Psu, Modular or Not? how often will the case be opened to dig around inside? if not often then a nice corsair vx450w shave a bit more off the cost
Motherboard, again if you're not going for a silly over clock, planning crossfire or giant raid array, do you need the latest p45?
if you can live with onboard graphics then g31 or g33
If you need a sepreate card then a low cost p35 or p43 may be better
For graphics low cost nvidia dx10, Scan have got a leadtec 9400gt pssive for £50
CPU cooler, again on a c2d no need to go silly, ninja is good but over kill unless you're really going to try to set some OC records
Akasa 965x3 under £15 and better than the stock cooler (although the stock cooler is also an option)
EDIT:
That's the best way to handle them in midi cases, but don't just stuff, get all the cables you are not using fold/roll them into a bunch, cable tie to secure, then another to keep them locked into place out of sight in the drive bayMight not be small but I find it a nightmare in midi cases with non modular PSU's. Just stuff all the cables into the CD drive bay space
As long as you don't dig around in the case all the time it's fine, many people never open there pc it's just us nutters who can never stop fiddleing.
