I use to do this with a HP Thin Client with USB Support. Also used standard USB external HDD.

Re: Turn any USB drive into NAS...

Sorry to drag up an old thread - I'm looking into NAS's and my head is spinning with all the various options. I'll probably do a longer thread when I've got it clearer in my head what the options are and likely cost, but searching for threads on Nas's and this one turned up. Then remembered something I saw on Scan - can this turn any drive into network drive for £10:

Newlink USB2 TO RJ45 Ethernet Adaptor (CDLSB-905) - Turn any USB Port in to 10/100 Ethernet Port
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Newli...or-(NLUSB2-ETH)

Does any usb port include the usb port on a cheap external drive?

seems too easy... how would the drive be accessed across the network for a start, dangel's link refers to Samba etc..

Re: Turn any USB drive into NAS...

I'm pretty sure Scan sold something that did this, but it did have a limitation of only one person being able to access it at any one time. Not sure if they still sell it because I can't find it anywhere

Is this not the one you're looking for?

Plenty of similar product, most of the NAS SCAN sells support additional USB drives.
