CD Burner and DVD rom?

alright i have a CD burner and a DVD rom...
they are on the same IDE ribbon in my case
they are connected to an epox 8rda3+

the problem?
sometimes they dont seem to work...
they just seem not to load anything and when in my computer it says "please insert cd rom" when i click on them.. but the cd spins as if it were loading...

it anoys me to buggery as SOMETIMES they work...

one of the only ways i can be certain to make it wrok is to put the cd in the drive and restart the computer... then it allows them to work!

and btw i have updated the drivers!

I assume your motherboard has on-board RAID. Have you tried connecting your HD up to the RAID controller and then putting each of the drives on a different IDE cable?

Using the nVidia SW IDE drivers or the MS ones?

the mobo has raid but its for sata not IDE so i cant make it 2 seperate cables
