Re: AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition vs Q6600

At stock the Phenom II 940 seems better than a Q6600 at stock for most games. However the question that needs to be asked is whether a Phenom II at 3.5ghz to 3.8ghz is faster than a Q6600 at 3.2ghz??

    Here are some possible answers:

    http://techreport.com/articles.x/16147/13

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-ph...review-test/17

Bascially your Q6600 is good enough for the time being. A 3 ghz to 3.5ghz Core2 Quad or a Phenom II at a similiar clockspeed will be good enough for most uses.

Re: AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition vs Q6600

if you can only get a q6600 to 3.2 you are doing it wrong

if you are comparing a stock 940 to a Q6600 @ 3.2 you are dong it wrong
    if you are comparing a 940 @ around 3.8-4 to a q6600 @ 3.2 you are doing it wrong
if you are comparing a q6600 stock to a 940 stock - why the eff would you make that kind of transition?

If the performance is much better in programmes that you use often? I don't think the O.P. knows the answer to that question though, which is why I think he's asking it.

Later examples of the Q6600 do not overclock as well. I should know as I have one and the VID is much higher then older examples. It can get to 3.2ghz but it runs hotter as a result compared to some examples people have. Also the overclock is dependent on the motherboard you have. I have a 975X. However at 3ghz my Q6600 is fast enough for me so I don't really care if it could even reach 4ghz easily!!

Anyway I think that a Core i7 would be the only decent upgrade for a overclocked Q6600 but even then the Q6600 would be competitive in games.

Mine will only go to 3.0GHz on a Maximus Formula.

    Agree with the rest though

whats your mobo just get a Q9550/Q9650 They beat the 940 at higher clocks & means you wont need to change your mobo.
