    Pioneer 106 if you're on a budget, Pioneer 107 if you're not.

If you want one with fast CD burning as well as good DVD burning, then the alternative is the LiteOn 8x.

I find that LiteOn one quite fussy with what media you put in it. Maybe recent firmware flashes have fixed this....

I bought mine around Christmas and haven't flashed it since. I've been using cheap Bulkpaq Orange DVD-Rs with it ever since I bought it. Burnt around 100 DVDs (data and movie DVDs) and not had a single problem.

Slightly OT - been thinking about buying NEC2500 OEM
What sw do you need to get to write to dvd (already have cd writing sw) & how much will that cost?

If you suggest another retail drive with sw please keep in mind drive needs to black.

    cheers.

    i got a LG +/- R/RW/RAM 8x Int IDE OEM

and it was £67 from DABs

    - it is 8x - but the main reason i got it is because its cheap and it does RAM disks

I second the vote for the NEC2500A 8xDVD-RW, oh and I just happened to buy it from where you work...the joys of living 10 mins up the road.
