I'd chose the Pioneer 106
Pioneer 106 if you're on a budget, Pioneer 107 if you're not.
If you want one with fast CD burning as well as good DVD burning, then the alternative is the LiteOn 8x.
I find that LiteOn one quite fussy with what media you put in it. Maybe recent firmware flashes have fixed this....Originally Posted by Aaron

Burns at 4x no probs

I bought mine around Christmas and haven't flashed it since. I've been using cheap Bulkpaq Orange DVD-Rs with it ever since I bought it. Burnt around 100 DVDs (data and movie DVDs) and not had a single problem.I find that LiteOn one quite fussy with what media you put in it. Maybe recent firmware flashes have fixed this....
I've got 3 NEC2500A drives and they are happy as larry with most media but I only use Ritek -R discs anyway

Slightly OT - been thinking about buying NEC2500 OEM
What sw do you need to get to write to dvd (already have cd writing sw) & how much will that cost?
If you suggest another retail drive with sw please keep in mind drive needs to black.
cheers.
Ebuyer are doing a toshiba 4xdvd-r for £46.99 its a weekend special price and its also available in black for the same price

Lite On, £95, would read a piece of toast if i put it in there, never had a disc it couldn't read with latetest firmware flash
i5 | Antec Sonata 3 | 4 GB | OCZ Vertex | Spinpoint F3 | Windows 7
i got a LG +/- R/RW/RAM 8x Int IDE OEM
and it was £67 from DABs
- it is 8x - but the main reason i got it is because its cheap and it does RAM disks
I second the vote for the NEC2500A 8xDVD-RW, oh and I just happened to buy it from where you work...the joys of living 10 mins up the road.Originally Posted by WildmonkeyUK

4.0x - 12 mins
8.0x - ???
