    Help with USB connections

Hello everyone, and how are we today?

I'm knackered as I've been up for hours trying to get my USB ports working.

    I have a DFI NF2 Infinity mobo with 6 USB 1.1/2.0 ports.

4 of these are hardwired into the board round the back where you plug the mouse, keyboard etc in.

There is a set of pins on the mobo for plugging in another two ports. My case has two ports in the front, behind a little door, from which runs a lead to plug into the mobo and thus use the ports.

The problem is the socket for the USB cable has 4 pins on the top row and 5 on the bottom. My usb cable from the USB ports has two wires, both ending in a flat plug with 5 holes in it.

I can see a little arrow on each plug which would indicate which end of the plug goes closest to pin 1, but I'm unsure of which one to plug into which row of pins.

the pin config looks like this from the manual looks like this:

    VCC 1 2 VCC
    -Data 3 4 -Data
    +Data 5 6 +Data
    Ground 7 8 Ground
    Key 9 10 N.C.

I have no idea what all this means... I just copied it straight from the manual.

Any one have any ideas? I really need to use the front ports, so any help to get me up and running with them would be very much appreciated!

    Cheers!

if i remember right red is vcc green is + data white is - data and black ground ,the spare pin on it own is usually unused although ive heard of some boards requiring it to be connected to the ground but is not the case in your case ,so double check that the pins are correctly set up and that the pins are connected as said if they are not just pop them out of the plug and pop them into the right hole

your mb connector and plugs from the case should look like the piccy i thinks

PS i accept no responsability for fire, destruction to hardware or death due to my advice (not that i expect any of those to happen lol)

Well chaps... it tunrs out that the plugs WERE already wired up correctly BUT the mobo had a fault on it which was causing the USB to go screwy.... at one point I couldnt even get past POST with nothing but my keyboard, mouse and screen plugged in...

Thanks for the help though, very much appreciated.
