    Which Hard drive?

Can anyone recommend a 1TB Hard drive which would be mainly used for file storage.
Would something like this Samsung HD103SI EcoGreen HD be OK. Or is it better to get a hard drive that spins at 7200rpm instead of the 5400rpm that the Samsung HD103SI EcoGreen HD spins at. Is there much of a speed difference?

It should be perfect. If you want energy efficient then either that drive or the WD Green. The Samsung F1 is very good also but, uses a little more power.

    Re: Which Hard drive?

What about reliability of the Samsung F1?? I heard that there were some issues with either the 500gb or 1tb hard drives. It would be useful to know as I usually buy Samsung hard disks.

    Re: Which Hard drive?

Got a pair of Samsungs here. And they are brilliant. Cool and quiet. Would def. buy some more, infact I intend to. I'm running out of space on my server

Sorry for the ugly UI, but hey it's my server box, not my gaming rig.

Worth noting that I don't have the Eco version. Just the normal 1tb 7200rpm version.

I don't think Samsung drives are any less reliable than anything else - however being a hard drive, it will fail at some point, so make sure your backup strategy is adequate.

Samsung are very good indeed. Would recommend them above all others.

    Re: Which Hard drive?

I do use Samsung usually(I use a couple of Spinpoint P and T drives) but I have heard a lot about about premature failures with the F1 series last year especially with the 1tb version.

Yes, agreed. Any and all hard drives will fail at some point. But I tend to go with Samsung because they run much cooler and are virtually silent.

I usually buy Samsung HD's as I find them to be quite reliable.
Would the speed difference be that much between the Samsung F1 and the Samsung EcoGreen F2 hard drives? Also does the F2 use 2 platters or 3 as I am not sure now.
