    Thoroughbred or thorton core?

Building a cheap PC for a friend to just surf the web and such... Came across 2 amd XP 2400+ processors.. one thoroughbred core, the other thorton. the specs are the same as far as i can see, as are the prices, but i was wondering if one had a better record as far as reliability etc...
    thanks, Ron

Thorntons are Bartons with only half the amount of onboard cache. If you search around, you'll find methods to join the L2 bridge and get the 'other half' of the cache back, so getting yourself a Barton.

Thorntons are quite rare to find, I've only ever seen one since they were released. From what I've seen, they OC and are as reliable as a Barton:

Reliability-wise, I doubt you need to worry about either core. If both are at the same price, I'd pick the Thornton for that tiny bit extra onboard cache.
