AMD 790GX Build

Hi,

Just built a new system with a Biostar 790GX motherboard, Phenom 2 X3 720 and a Radeon 4850.
Hoping you guys could answer a couple of questions for me.

1. Do you need to connect the auxiliary 4-pin graphics power connector or is that just if you're running crossfire?
2. Can you set it up so that the top PCI-E slot is your primary graphics card? It wouldn't detect it when i tried it as that is the Slave slot. The bottom of the motherboard is a bit cramped and i'd rather give the gfx some better cooling. Do you need to stick that little paddle board in the other one?

molex 4pin is optional, square 4pin is required.

I believe the paddle board can be put into the master slot ( lower ) to make the
top slot x16
I dont have the motherboard or manual as i have finished building the pc
