    CiT PSU experience anyone?

    Hi all,

A couple weeks ago, the fan stopped working on my ultra-hi quality Winpower PSU. I whacked an old one I had lying around in temporarily while I looked into getting a new one.

The computer is getting on a bit, and I'm considering doing a complete new build in the next year or so. But not immediately.

I had my eye on the Corsair CX400 (as budget is important). However, if its a year until I build the new comp, probably would want to get a new PSU then, rather than put a 1-year old one in.

Unfortunately, the one I whacked in has now stopped working, so need a new PSU ASAP. Does anyone have any experience with CiT PSU's? reliable enough for a temporary stop-gap until I build the new setup?

    Cheers

    Avoid!!

If you need a decent 400w for a budget price I would get the following:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/400w-...ed-cooling-fan

Silverpower is part of Tagan and I have used one in a build(and so have some other Hexus members) and they are decent PSUs for the money.

Agreed, I've never heard of CiT and I'd stay away from them if I were you. It's always best to stick to well-known brands of PSUs as a bad one is perfectly capable of frying everything in your computer (which wouldn't be covered by warranty BTW). Here's an interesting article on cheap PSUs: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...=Story&reid=71

    Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. In the end, I bit the bullet and ordered a Corsair 400CX from Scan, with the plan of maybe moving it to the new build if that happens sooner rather than later!

    Cheers again!

LOL. But very true. If you pay budget prices, expect to get a budget product. While it will work, don't expect the standard of design, component selection or construction to be the same as that of a unit costing two or three times the price.

Also at the PSU Review Database. Click on the brand and then it's under the Technical Specifications > OEM column, there are also linked reviews where available.

    Re: CiT PSU experience anyone?

I would only consider CIT PSU if you are extremely budget limited and it is bundled with the case, and I wouldn't use it on anything other than office/email machines. But even if you are going for these low end builds, those cheap EVGA or Seasonic would be better choice.

This was an 80 plus bronze rated power supply only thing it was missing really is the c6/c7 compatibilty more than i was originaly going to spend I wouldn't class as extremely budget. I hope you don't spend ludicrous amounts on a power supply I feel 30 pound is the maximum and wouldve used an old dell but felt I need more than 300w For a brand new PSU was truly bad no power cord loud coil whine/ transformer noise and my 8yr old dell is virtually inaudible. Mind you my limits were 400 including microsoft

The PSU is the most important part of your PC and should therefore get a very reasonable proportion of the budget spent on it. A decent one will protect other components from power surges and from itself going bang. It will last multiple upgrades and give you years of service. A CiT one will do none of these. It won't stably delivery it's rated power, when it does go bang at the very least it will take out some of your other pc components with it, at the very worst it will burn down your home. I speak from experience having made this mistake many, many years ago. I literally had flames coming out the back of my PC.

I haven't used CiT before my budget novatech one has been running strong for 3 years now! It's a 500w no branded one and cost me around £15 at the time.

    Runs a fx6300 and r9 270 easily!
