    P.C - New Build

    Hi everyone,

Firstly, note to Mods - If this si in the wrong place please move it, and sorry. Still finding my way around.

OK, I'm planning to build my own PC. I will use it mainly for editing, organising, archiving, publishing photos as well as editing movies using Photoshop, Lightroom, Sony Vegas, using the Internet and also playing some games. (probably slightly older games as I'm to poor to buy games new at full price.

I don't think I need a highly specced system and I'm loath to pay lots of money for a system I know I could have purchased a year later for half the price (or thereabouts).

So I would welcome any advice or recommendations for my PC So far I'm looking at the following:

Case: Coolermaster CM 690 or Antec 300
    Motherboard: Asus P5Q pro turbo
CPU: Not too sure about this (Core2 Quad or Duo)
    RAM: 4GB 800Mhz or above
    GPU: Radeon ATI 4850 512mb
    Monitor: I have already
Mouse and Keyboard: Not sure - would like a very basic/plain-looking, low-profile keyboard.

Still early days yet as I've only just started looking.

    Would love some advice.

    Thanks!

    Re: P.C - New Build

Look at the build I have posted here:

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...-computer.html

Without the monitor it should cost around £650. Drop the graphics card to an HD4870 512mb which you can on Scan for just under £100 and the build should be around £600. Once you reach 20 posts on Hexus you can get free Scan postage too!!

Here are some reviews for the Phenom II X4 940:

The 3.2ghz Phenom II X4 955BE does well in Adobe Lightroom and the 3ghz Phenom II X4 940BE should be a bit slower:

    CAT-THE-FILTH - Thanks for the help - I'll take a look .

I didn't think I would need a particularly powerful graphics card. I found this one:

    Thanks again

The HD4850 Vapour-X should do the job well and has an excellent cooler too!

However a reference HD4870 512mb can be had for around £97 and is around 10% to 20% faster than a stock HD4850:

Moose are quite clean unless they get their antlers covered with weeds which seems to be a deer norm!!
