dont think budget is gonna stretch to £400 on the monitor, the 22" dell looks nice, but max res 1680x1050, was looking at 1920 x 1080 minimum, other 24" monitors available slightly cheaper, better res and with hdmi input (not a must, but nice none the less).

    any reason for going dell?

The HP LP2475W is the best 24" LCD panel under £500 IMHO. It has an H-IPS panel and is very well regarded:

A few people on this forum have got it for under £400 from HP using a discount code and Quidco:

*hemhem* E-IPS and VA panels vs TN. There are some HP E-IPS panels floating around as well, but they are also around £380.

Then there is the customer service. The very good customer service. The customer service that takes the "We won't ask, is tomorrow a good time for a guy to come over and replace it?" appoarch to RMAs.

Re: First Build - £800 to £900 Budget

Once you use an LCD with an 8 bit PVA.MVA or IPS panels the 6 bit TN panels are a step backward TBH.

The older iMacs used to use VA and IPS type panels unlike the newer ones which use TN types and one of my mates who uses iMacs at work lamented how poor the screens on the new iMacs are - they were all flash and no finesse!

think im gonna stick with a tn display, prices are a bit too high to justify my need for it.
anyone recommend a decent 24 inch tn display, loads of reviews online.

Re: First Build - £800 to £900 Budget

What's the budget on the monitor ?
I just got the LG 23" 1920x1080 from Scan. It's a great panel at the price. Games are smooth, films play well.
Only drawback I've found is the lack of height adjustment on the stand. It doesn't have HDMI, but then I don't use it.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/23-LG...cd-m-5-ms-HDMI

Just checked the benq in the Cat's post. Looks very nice indeed.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.
