Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I've had four CPUs in the same board too, but for a slightly different reason. I started with an E4300 as my core 2 upgrade from the X2 4200+. (A no better CPU, but the X2 wouldn't even clock beyond 2.2 to 2.4, the E4300 I got from 1.8 to 3.15). A few months after, my (dreadful) P5N-E bit the dust, and I bought a P35C-DS3R to replace it. That was fine, but I wanted a dual graphics board, so bought the X38-DS4 in question. The X38-DS4 saw that CPU, a short lived Q6600 before I found a good deal on a Q9550 E0 stepping on ebay. That was used for a while, then when I wanted quad crossfire (the X38 board couldn't handle 4 GPUs very well) It was upgraded to a short-lived Maximus II formula (note the trend here), promptly replaced with an X48-DS4. The X38 board, however, was reused in a system with an E5200 so I could have a fanless system.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

    hehe
Nah, I'm well known for being quite a noisy anti-Asus bod, after all 5 of the products I've ever bought from them have been very unreliable, when other brands (MSI included, you'll be glad to hear) have almost never caused me any trouble. There's quite a few people who support this argument too, and of course, quite a few people who strongly oppose it.

Is that the bank "bank" or the other one?

I can't afford to upgrade ATM either.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

i see not point of upgrading yet as q6600 still gives solid performance when overclock, i might skip this generation and go straight to the next one.

my q6600 does very well in bad company 2@ 2.4ghz and undervolted to 1.25v

and i can overclock it to 3ghz if i need to (which i dont)

i dont see much point in overclocking the only game i see benefit from overclocking the q6600 is in gta 4

Although BC2 does make use of 8 threads.

Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??

I'm not really feeling a CPU bottleneck with my i5 in BC2, it has to be said. Everything is maxed but HBAO and AA. I'm pretty sure enabling either of those won't change the CPU loading, and as it stands the game runs reasonably smoothly. That said, this is at 4.12Ghz, perhaps at a lower clock speed I'd feel some CPU lag.

I think their game engine is scalable up too 16 threads but battlefield only scales up too 8 - evident in task manager
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
