OiD shhhh! Dear No.72 here is finding it rather impossble to get a girl friend ( google blues brothers) and he is the one on the right of the three!
any back to the topic of what i can run on this PSU??
Get an HD4850 as it is around the same speed as a 9800GTX+ and only requires one power connector. I would not run a graphics card which needs two power connectors off a 400w PSU as you do not want to stress it too much. Also as the PSU ages power output starts to decrease too.
If you want to upgrade to a new CPU,motherboard and RAM in the future you will also need to have some power reserves left in the PSU too.
Tough call it's basically a solid basic pc psu, ie not really designed for any high end graphics cards.
ati 4850 would be as high as I'd be willing to risk it.
although a ati 4670 or nvidia 9800gt may be a better idea
One of the eco 9800gt should eaisly run without issue
2nd hand 8800gts 512mb would be one to look at as well
As would a new psu ;)
The 8800gts (512) weighs in at 135W.
Forgot to mention my bodged calculations didn't include anything else except CPU and GPU.
Also screen size and resolution would play a big part. I am very tempted myself for the 4870 as it is excellent value. But I only have a 17" CRT and a budget of 45 and 50 absolute tops.
8800gts 512mb = 99W max

P.S. TDP = Thermal design power = the amount of heat generated / must be dissapated
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_design_power
Of course TDP is an indicator of power requirements as increasing power draw will increase heat generation.
Interesting pc stats watforddude, what fsb is that 17.5GHz overclock? :)
