Hd5870
fancy seeing you here tom, first time ive been on in yonks ;)
Obviously i couldnt run a 5870 on that?
Why not? I had a 4870 running in my media PC and it only pulled 230 watts, 400 is more than enough for it.
Oh, you said 5870, did you mean 4870?
No I met 5870, the card pulls 180w max, you telling me the rest of your system pulls over 200w? :p
Oh its just i had a lot of people saying that it wont work or will most like blow under a 4870!
We don't know the true characteristics of the 5870 yet, but you've only got 18A on a single rail to cover your CPU and GPU together. Is your PCI-E slot 2.0?
65W TDP CPU. Assume all comes off the 12V rail
4870 150W assume all comes off the 12V rail.
65+150=215W needed
You have 1 12V rail at 18 amps so (12*18)= 216W.
If the PSU is a few years old you may be supplying less. At temperature about 50(?) you'll be supplying less.
mmmmm, find a power calculater on line and have a look. your dession (my spelling id no better!)
No my PCI-e slot is 1.0 and isnt 1W cutting it too close?
Would expect most single GPU cards to be fine then, how many PCI-E power connectors you got? I expect its only one?
Ive got one, but i think it comes with a coverter, the card that is
i dont know if anyone knows but tom here is a gay........
when did he say that?
