    Re: Please Help

Personally, id go with a Athlon X4 - quad core for ~75 rather than the Phenom X3 all whilst saving money. Also go with 4GB (2x2GB) or 8GB (2x4GB or 4X2GB) rather than 6GB as there designed for Intel X58 platforms and may hinder your system rather than improve - in addition 4GB should cost less. With the prospective savings your close to ATi 5850 prices which will blow the 4890 away (not to mention the one you've chose it out of stock.

    Hope this helps.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Please Help

    Things to change:

1.)Consider getting Windows 7 Home Premium as it should around the same cost as XP:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Micro...lease-22-10-09

2.)Get the 1TB F3 instead of the 1TB F1 as the former is faster:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=1072299

3.)If you can get an HD4890 for under £130 it is worth it but the HD5770 is coming out in the month or so AFAIK. Also the HD5850 is worth a look although it costs around £200.

4.)The Phenom II runs RAM in dual channel so get an even number of RAM sticks! I would get 1600mhz DDR3 and run it at 1333mhz with low latencies as the memory controller in AMD CPUs is more dependent on latencies than outright memory speed.

    I would get this RAM:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(...ered-CAS-9-DHX

5.)For gaming the Phenom II will do better than an Athlon II at similar frequencies as it has 6mb of L3 cache which the Athlon II lacks.

6.)I would get one of the following motherboards if possible:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(...ered-CAS-9-DHX

    This has integrated graphics.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGAB...770T-UD3P-MOBO

    This has no onboard graphics.

Both motherboards have 8+2 phase power regulation for the CPU which is better. However both motherboards are ATX.

Also once you get 20 posts on Hexus you should be able to get free postage form Scan on orders above £20 excluding VAT.

No point if you're getting XP
32bit OS's have a maximum addressable memory size of 4GB, but that includes everything, so the OS will only be able to use ~3.25GB of RAM

If you get a 64bit OS then the theoretical maximum is 12TB (but don't get XP64)
2.) It says windows 7 has been overdue since 30th of aug.. so..
Win7 is released on the 22nd of this month, i'd highly recommend that you wait and get that rather than the archaic piece of poop that is XP

Sound will run off your motherboard, you could always purchase a soundcard for better sound fidelity though.
