    Jukebox and xp problems

ok...my dad got a new creative jukebox for christmas, I burned all his CDs on my comp and sent them through to firewire, which all worked perfectly.

Then he asked if I could set the jukebox up on his comp as I'm at uni with my comp most of the time. His comp is an athlon 1800+ running on windows 98. I was using the usb connection, the computer would detect the jukebox but couldn't transfer files with it and wouldn't detect on the software. I tried updating software, drivers and updated the firmware....still nothing.

So then we thought it might work if we used firewire. I ordered and installed a firewire card. This card worked with my other firewire devices. It still had the very same problem with the jukebox though.

So I thought it could be a windows problem, I tried updating using an official windows xp disc, this crashed on bootup, will boot in safemode but allways crashes. Then I formatted the disc, tried installing again and it keeps crashing.

So please can you let me know how to fix primarily the jukebox problem or the windows xp one? I'd appretiate fast replies as I go back to uni at the weekend and need to get it fixed by then.

i'm not sure what the problem with installing the software under xp is, but 98 barely supports usb mass storage, which would cover why it wasn;t working there.

no...me is just another (worse) iteration of 98, it's only 2k and XP that do proper USB mass storage.

Need to know more about the XP crashing to diagnose it - where does it crash, did you have any problems installing, and so on...have you installed SP1? no USB2 support otherwise, iirc.

98SE has a fairly mature MSC stack, as does ME. it's still ungodly & unstable MSDOS rubbish, but it's there. it wasn't under 98.
