In most cases I think the pwm is the highest at idle, cpu / sys will be close - run prime or summat and see which goes up fastest and that will be the cpu..

Price came to a few cents over $101 (US dollars) including shipping. I'm sure if you are shipping to canada you are going to pay less. The LCD without shipping was a little over $74.

Afaik you can only order them direct..... http://www.crystalfontz.com

The model number is a 631 and I went for the one that connects to one of the internal USB headers with my SB75G2 I have an extended USB header on the motherboard so I didn't have to lose any USB ports. I would guess that would be the same for all modern shuttles but check your manual to be sure.

The black is a closer match than my NEC DVD RW so I wouldn't worry about the colour. Although, the CrystalFonz logo isn't removable on the front which is a shame.

At present the buttons don't do anything. I hear that v2 of the control software which is being developed now will support these.

    Very nice indeed!

My fingers are REALLY twitching to order an SB75G2 but was wondering how LOUD are they at full load?

I've read that they're not the quiestest of SFFs... presumably changing the ICE fan is a good starting point. Don't you have to take out the mobo to put a passive cooler on the NB?

Mine replaced a SN41G2 and it makes less noise than that that. I'm running a noiseblocker S4 with speedfan (the same as I was in the SN41G2).

I think most of the noise difference is down to the SilentX PSU. The meshed sides do increase the noise compared to the solid sided ones but I like the look and I'm sure my GFX is better off with fresh air to breath.

I've not looked at replacing the NB fan. Tbh since I'm 'clocking mine I want a bit of active cooling on the NB.

Very nice, I have a SB65G2 with stealthed front bay, a papst quiet 34CFM fan which is the bee's and a SilentX 250W PSU. Those LCD's look nice I might have to get myself one.

With regards to temps, I managed to swap my 2.8C P4 for a 2.8E P4 (Prescott), the downside is that it's much hotter, its faster for encoding though (avi->mpg).

The PWM is the Pulse Width Modulator (MOSFET's) these supply the CPU the correct voltage and get very hot.

I did some research (god bless google ), they are rated to 120C so don't worry about them. The PWM runs about 70C in my shuttle when encoding, cpu's at 57C, case at 35C.

They will always run hotter than the CPU, theres various talk about putting heatsinks on them and fans but unless you're having problems I wouldn't bother.

I'd say the SB75G2 is too loud for a living room imho.

Rabs, my mosfets have heat sinks on them. That helps to keep them to a reasonable temp.

I haven't checked mine actually, but thats the result of my research. After doing all the research I did, I can see why OTES is good on some Abit motherboards.

As for a silent unit for the living room, build a cheap system round this (ie Celery, mATX MB with onboard gfx & sound and black drives).

    http://www.antec-inc.com/pro_details...p?ProdID=15100

Before I get flamed, use a Celery as the case is small and they run nice and cool, probably the cheapest option unless you buy a mATX Nforce 2 board and use a mobile Barton (check if the MB supports if first though)

Theres a 80mm fan on the side too for extra cooling, works great with speedfan. Nice quiet little system
