At what resolution? The 4870 should smash out WoW on highest settings @ 1920x1080 with no problems at all. Not sure what WoW is like on the processor but I imagine it should cope no dramas.
Did you go AM2+ because of the horrendous price of DDR3 by any chance??
Aha yeah, I had a look at the price and nearly had a heart attack!
Yeah, the corsair stuff costs a LOT! You can find the G.Skill stuff reasonably price I'm told.
Wow uses two cores to my best knowledge so it should run great.
World of warning; the mobo is ancient (based on 4 yr old tech). No possible chance of unlocking on it.
There should be DDR3 for about £10 more than what you're paying but mobo will be alot more to go AM3.
The 500W has two PCIe pins? Hows the cooling on the case as that 4870 is going to get scorchy.
I would look to get some gskill DDR3 1600 ram, it's only around a tenner more delivered if you look around, but then you may need to spend slightly more on anotehr motherboard. All in all thats a fairly good price for a good spec pc. You could also try and pick up a second hand 4870 to save some cash but ofcourse you dont know whats been done to it.
I'm definitely forwarding the motion for the Gskill DDR 3.
A different mainboard is going to be the best buy you can make on that build as well.
If you don't want to spend the extra on DDR3 and a DDR3 mainboard, go for an AM2+, which uses DDR2 but still supports AM3 socket processors. You will have to upgrade sooner, but saves you a little now if it's a budget rig.
No idea where you got that 4870 1GB for 85 pounds, lol. <--- Jealous.
I used to have a 512mb ram version of that card and it would do Fallout 3 etc. on very high without difficulties. WoW graphics should be a joke next to that card.
Server: 503
A covenant you died to keep,
became the flame that lit this fuse
Who thought I'd love to be a sheep,
singin' your crucifixion blues
That motherboard is quite weak so personally I'd go for something like the MSI 770-C45
And as it's an AM3 motherboard, you'll need some DDR3 RAM.
I think this is the RAM people are recommending, although it is CL9, you might be lucky to get it down to CL7 at 1333mhz (optimal settings) but even if it's not the case, you won't feel any real world difference.

Aye I dont like buying used computer parts.
And I know what you're talking about, I could unlock the processor to a quad core if I got an asus board, but those other 2 cores are locked for a reason apparently because they are unstable and I wouldnt want to risk it
And im not sure what the cooling is like in that case. But its a coolermaster so it should be good. Right?
101 GBP I think.

This is an awesome board for the price if you were to go AM3/DDR3. The cooling that coolermaster should be fine, I'd buy another 120mm fan to go on it too though.
The locked cores aren't always unstable - people have unlocked and overclocked X2's successfully with no issues.
To echo everyone else - get a better motherboard than that There's plenty of decent AM2+ mobos if you want to stick with cheaper DDR2 memory - an extra £10 will be more than worthwhile. The board you've picked is AM2 and therefore has the older (and slower) HT1 not HT3. Something like this ASRock or this MSI would be better value if you're looking for a budget mobo - but basically anything with a GeForce 8 or AMD 700 chipset...
Like I said a bit scorchio, don't really have time to do the background but it may be good to compare the test case with the CM. As long as you have another 120mm fan drawing into the case you may be okay. A nice loud high rpm one is what I would go for. I have no experience of the card, case or psu though tbh.
4870s can be underclocked when not gaming so may be something to look into to save power and heat.
Unlocking cores should not be something to aim for but may be a free upgrade. MSI and GB boards now have teh option of running tricores form dual cores by selectively re-locking an unlocked cpu. the AthlonII x3 and x4 may be another consideration for longetivity but will give you a hit in WoW performance due to lower clocks and no L3 cache (they unlock as well).
The 4870 will auto underclock when not doing 3d apps. Mine does
If you're a cooling freak like me get some aftermarket cooling on your 4870
Ill see what the temps run at then decide on aftermarket cooling
(By the way im using this feedback for MY rig, The one I showed im building for a mate and ordered the parts a few days ago.)
But yeah, I think I would go for that Ulti linked. it looks purdyy
