It may be OTT but find me another PSU and modular cheaper. A 650W corsair costs a tenner more than this.

There are plenty of cheaper modular PSUs on the market. Whether you will get an 850W PSU cheaper though is another question. Also the brands of capacitors used in the PSU are unknowns(at least to me). I have never heard of Chhsi and UUCap TBH and hence I cannot really say how good these capacitors are and how they will fair in a few years time.

After a quick search for Chhsi it does not look good:

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...meta=&aq=f&oq=

From what I gather UUCAP is somewhat better but not in the same league as Rubicon or similar companies.

Its not that its a 850W PSU it is that its 850W yes but it has the 4 PCI-E connectors i need, and is the cheapest of any PSU that has 4 PCI-E connctors.

I taken other peoples opinions and a guy whose used it personally. Im most likely going to buy this.

Re: PSU for 2 4890's xfire

TBH,I would rather spend the extra money and get a PSU which has decent caps even if it is £10 to £20 more. It is simply not worth the hassle if the caps go kaput in two to three years. Cheap caps are probably the reason this PSU is so cheap in the first place. If you are going to be spending £300 on a new motherboard and a pair of HD4890 cards it seems a bit daft to skimp on the PSU.

You dont happen to be a corsair or antec representative?

Im gona buy it, use it till the 750corsair comes down in price. Then sell the 850W, maybe.

No,and who the heck are you insinuate otherwise?? Biscuit has the same reservations I had. I don't just look at something cheap and say it looks cheap so it must be good and get excited about it. A cheap person always pay twice.

CAT-THE-FIFTH knows what he's talking about, heed his advice!

don't get the cheap PSU. chances are it will fail.
get a Corsair and you'll be very happy.
they're VERY quiet, they're VERY VERY reliable and have an amazing RMA service.
and they even send you free cables if one of your's breaks

I think CAT was only trying to give you his honest advice - and it sounds pretty sensible to me - but if you want to go with the cheaper 'unknown' PSU then that's your choice.

So Biscuit must be your colleague.

I actually waited to get excited, after i read the reviews and opinions of others i decided.

You working with them also, hmm?

    Nah i know.

Id love to know whether anyone of you guys have ever had a PSU **** up on you and kill your **** off?

I remember buying my current build (below) 2 years ago and it was the same story "buy top quality this, top quality that" ye thats sound advice and makes sense, but you got to give others a chance too.

Corsair and other premium brands must love you guys for promoting their products for free. Its like me saying dont buy Skoda, buy BMW "cos they're use better capacitors" (LOL) i mean "cos they got better fuel efficiency" except they're a 2.8 lt engine and will cost you 10x more regardless of how effecient they are.

Re: PSU for 2 4890's xfire

Read through that jonnyguru review again, jonnyguru is always a good place to start as they are very tough on psu's and very carefully disect them.
The NorthQ Black Magic failed to get a recomended (need to get a 9 overall), all be it by just half a mark, the key reasons for this loss was the unkonwn cap's and loud load based fan.
Look at the corsair psu's on jonnyguru, I don't think a single one has yet to fail to get a recomended.
Corsair psu's are well built units with high quality components made by Seasonic and CWT.

I would say that the blackmagic did very well and personally I'd be willing to give it a go esp at £65

Id love to know whether anyone of you guys have ever had a PSU **** up on you and kill your **** off?
Yes many of us here have had that happen, I've lost a cpu+motherboard+graphics card all from one psu dieing, after it's happened to you once you suddenly get very careful over your psu choises and the build quality of them.

why don't you just go away and not come back if you're gonna just have a go at people for trying to help you.

its been 2 and a half years since JonnyGuru's review. He says...

    The Bad:

    * fan louder at full load than any other 135mm I've seen
    * capacitor brands are questionable

I wont get to full load, so fan noise isnt an issue.
Questionable capacitor brand, well as i said its been a few year maybe its become less questionable.

Apart from that i dont see why this isnt a viable option for some of you.

Regardless, i'll be buying this one.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

Re: PSU for 2 4890's xfire

Also the antecs you said didnt have 4 x PCI-E - i know the 750W one does as i own it

Im not a colleage of anyone on these forums and i havet never actually had my own stuff blow up becuase of cheap power supplies but i have had to build people entirely new computers because they did it.

Im 85% sure that power supply will be ok anyway but if you did get a corsair, enermax, antec, seasonic, silverstone etc then that 85 would go up to 95-99% depending on the model.

As has been mentioned; if you come onto a forums looking for validity on your decisions then be prepared to be dissapointed. We are honest people who talk from experiences here and we wont agree with something which we are not sure of.
