    Bizarre display problem

OK - hooked up a Q17s to a 9600XT in a new system, windows installed, everything works, but now and again on start up, just as windows is starting, the monitor goes black - windows finishes starting up - makes the "windows start" sound - but the monitor just stays black - the little status light goes orange/green intermittently -any ideas?

Hmmm, the first time you install ATi drivers, I think they normally make the screen go black for the first time you log into Windows after installation. Perhaps try uninstalling the drivers, use something like Driver Cleaner and then reinstall the drivers. What version are you using?

boot windows with 'vga mode' or something (hit F8 when its loading, you'l get a choice of safe mode, and some other stuff)...

set the screen resolution (and refresh rate) to something reasonably low (ie 1024x768 @ 60hz), reboot, and all should be good
