Fitting the 9800gx2 and keeping my quad cooled might be a bit of a task, maybe a h50 would do the trick. on second thoughts I doubt I could find a PSU to fit inside the shuttle to power it all
The older Shuttles need to be modded to fit mini ITX motherboards as the mountings on the case will not line up.

The 500W PSU in the SX58H7 will run a GTX295:

TBH,if it would be probably worth replacing the 9800GX2 with a card like a HD5850 if you are building an SFF due to the fact the ATI card will run cooler and consume less power.

The only real downside is that they support a maximum of 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB), but that's not a huge problem in a low spec system, I wouldn't think...

EDIT: Having googled up images of your Shuttle I don't think that'll work at all - while the motherboard appears to be flexATX size it runs the "wrong way", as it were...
I had the earlier VIA C3 and it was powerful as a stunned Ferret.

The C7 will probably be as powerful as TWO(yes TWO!) stunned Ferrets.

The motherboards look great for the price but I am a bit worried that the XP2800 would be more powerful than a C7 processor though.

Why do almost all the mini ITX motherboards with weak or ancient processors have a PCI-E 16X slot whereas none of the newer AMD ones have one??

    Re: AMD XP2800 replacement

This socket 775 based mini-ITX motherboard looks relatively cheap:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/181269

The IGP does not have brilliant peformance though:

    http://www.silentpcreview.com/article960-page1.html

OTH,I could re-use my E2160 or E4300 and this would definitely be a step up from an XP2800 and an nForce2 IGP.

Yeah, Intel's 4500 graphics weren't that bad really - they just weren't as good as the AMD and Intel versions that were around at the same time. Definitely looks like a good option at the price...

I've got a GMA X3100 on my work laptop, not even good enough for Football Manager in 3D mode to run smoothly. Not that I've tested it.

Makes me want to cry it's so bad

    Found this

    http://www.steatite-embedded.co.uk/m...0-chipset.html

Expensive though at £150 odd quid for what it is

Their cheapest Intel socket board is also circa £150

    Re: AMD XP2800 replacement

I would probably get the Intel DG41MJ motherboard for the time being and re-use my E4300 and 4GB of DDR2. I also have a 250GB Samsung Spinpoint P and a PCI wireless card which I could re-use.

This should be fast enough to run Ubuntu 9.10 I assume??

I have an E4300 and a E2160 - is it worth selling these to get an E5200 or a Celeron E3200 for example?? I am thinking more of the reduction in power consumption than outright performance though.

BTW,my Shuttle has the limited edition RefleXion case which was made for the 20th anniversary of Shuttle.
