Need to reboot to detect external SATA drive.

I have an external HDD (Akasa Integral P2) - When in USB mode it works fine with my media player. However when switching to SATA mode, the computer doesn't detect the drive, and requires a reboot to detect it.

Is there anyway to have Windows Vista detect the drive without having to restart?

I think you'll need to enable ACHI in your Bios to get hotplug working. although be warned, this may stop your OS from booting if you don't sort out your registry and drivers before doing this. I believe there is a sticky at the top of this forum explaining it for the p35 chipset

Thanks for that. Just found out it detects it if you scan for hardware changes. Made a desktoop icon using the guide here
