Most people don't know how to configure the BIOS. Disable everything you don't need / won't be using. This saves the BIOS a job on startup. I disable all the serial ports and any other ports I won't be using. The only other settings would be the variable fan. You tell the BIOS what temps you want it to speed up at and so forth.

As long as you've got a relatively cool running processor in there, the base settings should be fine.
I built a shuttle for my missus, last month, with a Palomino chip in there... with the base settings (48C, iirc?), the fan always whirred up when she was playing Age of Mythology. Loud as a cat in a bin liner, tbh. So i changed the chip for a Tbred B and the ICE fan for a Noiseblocker S3. Runs alot cooler and quieter, now.
I'd recommend doing that if you value silence :>
They can get annoying *whirrs up, whirrs down, whirrs up, whirrs down* you get the point
thanks chaps! i duno what i would do with out you lot!! err yes i do.. i would run my 2800+ at the default 100 instead of the 166... wasting lots of money!
It REALLY gets on your nerves!Originally Posted by KeZZeR
