    Which DDR3?

First of all my number one priority for this PC is gaming. I don't care about the performance of anything else.

After much debate in my own head over whether to go for the full fat x58 or the slightly easier to swallow socket P55 I've decided to go for P55. The motherboard selection on x58 is severely lacking now and the rampage II is still silly money and x58 evga boards are now an endangered species so I'm going to go for the P55 asus maximus III formula (mainly because of looks and pci-e slot placement) and an i7 860.

I've already got a corsair H50 so I'm going to push the i7 860 to it's max and this is all in anticipation of the GTX 380 which i will sli eventually..... maybe.

The one question that remains though is which DDR3 to go for. DDR3 has gone down but it's still hella expensive so I'm a bit miffed I'm going to have to go from currently 8GB ddr2 to 4GB ddr3. I've done a bit of research into the speed of DDR3 in gaming and come back with mixed results. Some say the faster DDR3 is better and some say it makes no difference which DDR3 you use.

So can anyone provide some clarity on the subject?

    My thoughts..
-does faster ram mean easier overclocking? (that was the case with 775)
-I always thought however more ram is better than faster ram in the grand scheme of things.
    - HOWEVER I'm shallow and stupid and love the look of the dominator GT modules...

    Cheers

    Re: Which DDR3?

I got 4 gb of GeiL 2133 mhz. I get 1600mhz cas6, 1688mhz cas7 both 1T. This is great performance and I have pushed my i5 750 to 4ghz no problem under an h50. Faster RAM means more flexibility with the core speed as you won't have to worry about operating over the maximum or taking a performance with a lower multi. That said, 1600mhz is fine. This will do fine, or if your budget is high then this, or this if it is lower. Hope i helped

    Re: Which DDR3?

For overclocking 1600mhz minimum, as low a latency as you can find, 2x2gb is fine and not over 1.65v for socket 1156

For the Cost the Gskill Rip jaws is well recomended http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...L7D-4GBRM.html
Although atm ddr3 prices are still slowly creaping up, that memory was £80 back in november

    Re: Which DDR3?

I think I'm going to go for the Dominator GT Ram. As I can now get the cpu and motherboard a lot cheaper.
