4GHZ is not too bad at all for a 45NM AMD chip!!

I am shocked that the Pentium G6950 is so easy to damage. It looks like the voltage needs to be kept at 1.4V and below.

TBH,even at stock speeds for both processors with an HD5850 the framerates do not look too bad at all at 1920X1200. If anything this indicates that spending loads on a CPU is not necessarily the way forward for a single card gaming computer.

At least with the current AMD processors you can re-use any 800MHZ or 1066MHZ DDR2 RAM you have in an AM2+ motherboard.

I suppose, RAM prices just seem to be the sticking point thats stopping people building a 'budget' build.

and the prices still seem to be riseing esp on the cheap stuff.

Out of interest why don't you get a cheap Q6600 and use this for the time being?? I am sure that after selling your E6600 it won't be that expensive an upgrade!!

I am holding off any major upgrade until next year(providing my PC is still working fine this year) until next year since Intel Sandy Bridge and AMD Bulldozer are being released in 2011.

Of course USB3,SATA 3 and PCI Express 3.0 should be hopefully mainstream next year too.

On a side note; do you think we are goingt o see HDDs making use of SATA3? I'm not sure atm HDDs are using the max transfer rates of SATAII. Just curious really.

I know PCIe3 is a way off getting maxed.

Well the Seagate XT is SATA 3 and two of them raided would definately surpass the SATA 2 standard.
