Looking for a low cost server..

if he had loads of money, what on earth would he be in here for...

A decent server is at least £1000 for a DIY...

A number of our members are in the IT field, some running some rather large networks, and as such are a good sounding board for potential purchases. I certainly value a number of the opinions of various members here, especially those vastly more experienced than myself with certain products.

Budget is important, but if you add up the potential losses to a business when a mission critical server dies, then it becomes insignificant compared with the size of those losses.

He needs a SERVER.. not a desktop PC.

All I see is me refuting a suggestion you've made that I feel is inappropriate for the situation I presume Trig wants it. Then because (and I'm getting strange flashes of deja vu) we've pointed out the inadequacies of your suggestions, you've flown off the handle.

I think many server admins will agree with me, that in the environment most servers operate, a desktop PC has very little chance of surviving, and that they don't come with the support that a business needs on its hardware. That is the reason for the different pricing. If you really do know about servers, you are definitely bonkers to contemplate running an overclocked i3 in a mission critical environment.

As to rude? I don't think so. Assertive, yes, rude, no. At no point have I attacked you personally, merely highlighted flaws in your arguments. It is on the contrary, however that you've attacked my lack of ability to comment on the subject matter, knowing nothing of my history. However to give you a good idea, the forum owners would not have asked me to moderate the forums if they felt I was rude or often one to jump to conclusions without any factual basis.

So please, as I said previously, follow the rules we've set out and refrain from resorting to personal insults.
