    If the old box is SBS then a second SBS server in the domain will give you a headache you DON'T want.

    Is the old SBS 2k8? If so moving some of the SQL stuff of it and on to the new box should certainly help perk it up a bit.

    Yeah the old box is SBS08, theres no SQL on it atm, its a new setup, the only stuff that old server does it Exchange and Sage, Sage will be moving to the new box though which should free up more of the old box's ability..

    Yup, that's definately the way forward; Trying to move it to a new installation of SBS is a minor mission and ultimately not gaining you much. Once sage is off the box, you could always look at chucking a bit more RAM in the SBS server if it's struggling (4GB is the minimum for SBS08, I'd guestimate it'd be happier with around 8, but perfmon would be your friend).

    Yeah the existing box is 5gb but suffers memory wise, but the exchange side of things keeps falling over which will probably mean a reinstall on it as well, idea currently is to keep the new box just for the SQL/Sage and then max the RAM out on the old box and just keep the Exchange/Domain stuff on that.

    If the old box wasnt having issues with Exchange it wouldnt be an issue but as its being **** thats whats put the idea of SBS on the new box and moving everything to that in my head.

    As it stands I'm looking at £2800 for the 2008 Std box, plus some RAM for the old box, or £2900 for the same box but with SBS2008 and then bin the old server.

    Yeah, but factor in your time too fella;

    £100 is nothing but you're looking at probably 8 hours+ of migration of one SBS to another.
