PWM Fan Splitters: any experience?

Hi Guys,

just a quick check to see if anyone has any experience with PWM fan splitters like this Akasa? I guess the theory looks sound, but is it really as simple as connecting it up to a molex, 3 fans and the motherboard? And do you get any loss / interference compared to running a PWM fan direct from the header?

I'd love to run the rad fans off the CPU header when I finally put my rig under water, but I'm finding it hard to believe that it could be this simple / cheap to do it! I thought everything related to water cooling was horrifically expensive!

if the header can take the ampage you can hack up your own for the rads, you use 1 RPM signal and patch the rest together., otherwise that will work fine.

Iv used one, works fine for me but the fans need to have the same max RPM if you want it to report back to the mobo ok

I used one, and it turned out that my CPU fan header was actually voltage controlled despite bing 4 pin. All the fans just ran at 100%. Was quiet disappointing really.

Well looking at it, the RPM sensor is only fed on one of the headers (the one labled cpu) the other 2 headers are feed 12v and ground from the molex and the PWM signal from the 4pin fan plug (seems to have 3 wires feeding out from the one pin)

As long as all the fans you plug into it are 4pin pwm type I cannot see any reason why it shouldn't work.
and if this is for a rad then it's geberally best to use the same fans on it.

Yeah, my plan would definitely be to use the same type of fans on the rad. Sounds good to me

you need to consider that water cooled rigs hold such low temps the auto fan will hardly ever kick in !

i never did it to my rampage extreme as the chance in the socket hitting 40 degrees was slim to none, and thats the lower end of the fan profile

Oh yes that's right, I've just checked on my msi p55-gd65 40c is the lowest start temp, min fan speed is 0% though, although the next lowest is 12.5% (which is what I currently have it set to)
