    A good keyboard needed

I thought I would see what people opinions are on a good keyboard.

My faithful Logitech multimedia keyboard died not long ago (3 year bashed the space bar to its death) So I decided to replace it with the Logitech G15 Rev 2 gaming keyboard. Based on the reviews I was expected a good all rounder keyboard....

    Soooooooo wrong.

Its a horrible keyboard in so many ways. There are some review sites like bit tech that speak the truth this horrible keyboard, but most rave about it.

So can anyone recommend a good keyboard. Multi media functions like volume controls, play, pause, skip etc etc. Back lit keys would be nice (one good feature of the G15)

Do not need macro keys, find them more pain then there worth.

Budget, say unto or around £25

    Re: A good keyboard needed

I have the Logitech G11 and I find it a decent keyboard.

Bit-tech considers it a good keyboard:

    http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2007/...logitech_g11/1

OcUK have it for around £26:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=KB-090-LG

The image compares the G11 with the G15 version one.

I've been running the Eclipse II for about a year and a half now. It's a fantastic keyboard and has took everything i've thrown at it. The variable backlit keys havent aged a day and they keyboards media functions do everything i need without becoming gimmicky, a waste of time or unneeded space users.

It's also built like a rock and it's incredibly easy to clean. It's comfortable for long sessions and works well as a gaming keyboard and as a touchtype keyboard.

If the III is anything like the II then it will be a sure winner.

Microsoft Sidewinder X4 isn't bad too! If you're not a fan of red backlighting then it might be slightly annoying for you but you can turn it off.

The keys are nice to type on but do provide sound so if you've got a moany wife then perhaps go for something else but personally I love mine.

Saitek are really that good, from a quality/heft/key feel point of view anyway. As for the II vs III - the II has volume, pause/play, fowards/backwards etc. type controls which is all I've ever needed for music, but nothing else. While the III seems to have a lot of macro type keys. The III is much too gaudy and large for my tastes, but if you're coming from a g15 then maybe it would suit you better. The II is normal keyboard sized (though about 5 times the weight).

    Re: A good keyboard needed

I bought a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard about 9 months ago, for around £45 from memory.
    'Trusted Reviews' review.
I've been very happy with it, it's one of those 'does what it says on the tin' devices without anything surprising, but it does it in a well-built and classy way.
It is however a little over your budget, and if anything it's even gone up in price since then.
    £65 from amazon.
    Ebuyer. Scan.

All i could advise is to keep an eye out for bargains, ebay etc.

How about the Sidewinder X6? Its expensive but a nice keyboard. I have one which was "faulty" and i will be repairing it on the weekend (the mebrane pad needs realignment thats all), its a German layout keyboard (not much different, just different symbols and Y Z are switched), ill be selling it end of this week hopefully for like £15, might be something youd want?

I have the Saitek III, it's pretty nice. The touch activated media controls are a nice 'touch'.

I don't use the macros other than the calc button which is pretty handy.

My 'down arrow' key is broken and has been for ages, but I rarely use it so I'm not bothered really.

You can lift the keys out to switch them around, they slide through the light panel.

    Re: A good keyboard needed

My last keyboard before the G15 was the Logitech Y-BN52 (aka Media Elite) I've still got this plugged up to the kids computer and it is so much nicer to type with. The keys are higher and alot smoother to use.

How people rave about the G15 I do not know. They must be used to cheap keyboards or something.

I am looking at the saitek III with curiosity.

Based on the review from Trusted Reviews - this keyboard has one of the same problems as the G15, the keys are too low. Tell you what the G15 feels like - The old BBC

It is your fault entirely for not physically checking the keyboard before buying it. There is no need to insult people because they have a different preference in keyboards then you!
