    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

I was looking at a £50 laing pump, a £17 res top for the pump, a £35 rad, a £30 waterblock and then compression fittings for roughly £20 (will need 6 of them?) Tubing coils etc only gonna be about a tenner.

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

If it was my money, I would have :-

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=181

at the bottom of the page, pick the option with the xspc res top (works out cheaper and gives better performance than a top + res)

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...oducts_id=1078

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=632

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...products_id=47

I would stay away from the coloured coolants and go with distilled water and a silver coil.
If you want any colour go with coloured tubing.

I have linked you to chilledpc as this is my preference, as the service is first class and the items are cheaper than your links.

You can also be cheeky and as Tom for FREE postage (worth a go)

Also remember you have to purchase fans !!!!

If you budget can be stretched go with a

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...products_id=42

Water cooling can be addictive, so a better rad will last you longer.

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

I have some fans already, the corsair h50 bundled fan which I believe isn't bad as well as a scythe gentle typhoon and an antec tricool. I think that thermochill rad looks a little thick for the front of the case but I'm not sure.

If space is a problem go with

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=262

Had the 360 version before with six fans.
A very good rad for a tight space.

As for fans, get another gentle typhoon.

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

The corsair fan no good? I'm not gonna be breaking any records here, just trying to hit 4.2ghz with my i5
OTOH, it looks like I can spare a few CM at the front of the case, but I would still go with the black ice (the non lite version) for the money saving aspect of it

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

I have never used the corsair fan.
I have used the gentle typhoon.
They shift a lot of air with very little noise.

From your spec it shows you are hitting 3.7 ghz with 1.36volts, is this correct?

Yeah, I dunno how much lower the voltage can go but I hit 4 with 1.45 and that was the minimum it would hit 4 with.

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

I don't think you will get to 4.2 without killing your chip.

Whatever cooling you have, the chip will not get that high without a LOT of volts

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

    Nothing wrong with that.
I thought about going into water cooling a few years back.
Decided to go with water instead of air.
Should have gone with air as water can be very addictive and costly.

    (had a few misadventures)

Prefer now to give people the benefit of my experience so they do not make the mistakes that I have.

    Re: Thinking about watercooling...

I never added up what The STY cost me.
Don't want to know as that would frighten me to death.
Already having itchy feat and got rid of the 280GTX Sli's and replaced them with something new.
Just ordered a new block, so my build will be updated within the next week.
