Which media streamer for music playing?

HI all, just a quick question.
My friend has just heard about media streamers, thinks that they sound like a great idea (he's not techie at all). He actually only wants to be able to play music via his amp & speakers, but these form a part of (and are connected to) his TV.
He likes the idea of the Western Digital HD TV, but would need the £70 model not the mini, since his TV has HDMI in and no other spare input connectors (and the WD Mini doesnt have HDMI out).

What other media player should he be looking at?
He will be wanting to plug in a local USB drive, and not stream over a network. Also the Squeezebox's are totally out of his price range.

    Cheers ears.

AC ryan ACR-PV73200 - this has HDMI and also supports Shoutcast as well as has 2 USB ports for drives etc to be connected up to the media player.

Re: Which media streamer for music playing?

Whats wrong with a simple twin phono cable from PC to hifi amp ?? Mine is 20 metres long and cost me less than a fiver.

    Just a thought.

Unless he *really* wants to stream video too ?
    Cheers, David

Thanks guys. The idea is that he does not want his PC on to play music, just come in, turn the 'whatever' on, and play.
As for the Squeezebox, i really should have said something in my opening post like
the Squeezebox's are totally out of his price range
    but i guess i forgot

The AC Ryan looks good, except that it is £20 more than the Western Dig.

Hmm... i might go with the WD. Thanks anyway though chaps.

ahhh OK, in that case, for cheapness, why not a small USB MP3 player like the sony ?

Indeed, this could be the better route in the end. I'll talk it through with him.
