I wish
Nope - tis no problem
Looks like I only going to take 1 hard drive out of my old machine (300gb), the other hard drive in there was only 80gb so not really worth putting in. So I really don't need that big a case do I really? My current case is a Coolmaster one which is 430mm talk and quite loud. Something smaller and quieter than that would be great.
Thanks
That's where the Quickports come in useful I mention here - when you have the odd 80gb drive doing nothing
Either that or a good removable hard drive caddy/rack
Yeah if you are only going to have 1 x 3.5" drive and an SSD you could easily fit it into a uATX case. Im quite a fan of this one:

You would need to make sure you got a uATX motherboard though!
Thanks Biscuit, quite an expensive case though..

Is this a decent case and would I have to fit a motherboard such as this one to it ?http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=1216263
Very nice case Luke.
Pretty sure that motherboard would be good for that.
That case is pretty much the same one as i said, except it doesnt have USB3.0 ports on the front. Still a very fine case and should bode well for a quiet system.
It does mean you have to use Micro ATX cases yes, but you shouldnt lose much functionality over it as it doesnt seem like you'll be wanting to use many additional PCI slots. Cats suggestion is probably better value, heres the link again. Reason for this is the Gigabyte on has built in USB support instead of just coming with a small PCI-E card.
The added bonus of that chipset is, as CTF said, you wont really need to use any additional graphics cards. The onboard should be plenty for basic graphics and video work, if you find it isnt you can always just buy a new graphics card later and slot it in.
Might be worth a getting a new cooler such as this. The fan should be quieter than the stock AM3 fan plus alignment of it should allow you to keep a constant flow of air thoughout your case keeping temperatures down.
If you do get an SSD make sure you dont forget one of these or it wont fit .
Thanks Biscuit and DavidM
This is what I have come up with so far...

Figured I might as well upgrade my dvd burner as well as its a bit ropey! I ditched a GPU as well, figure the one built in should suffice for now and I can always upgrade as you said Biscuit.
What do you think? Am I forgetting anything!?

Would this be a better buy
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/60GB-...-to-35-bracket
than
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/60GB-...-Write-275MB-s
£15 cheaper and looks like it will deliver the same performance..
Both SSDs will do the job just fine, cheaper = better i guess yeah That one also comes with a bracket so will save you a few more quid.
Did you decide the Phenom II would be worth it over the Athlon II? No problem if so just making sure you havent made a mistake.
I would also look towards a better wireless card. I dont know what set up you have at home but i have used that one before and the antenna can be a bit temperamental. Abit have also (rather unfortuantely) gone bust so dont expect any support for it in the future. Seems expensive but if you are planning on upgrading your wireless any time soon then a wireless N might not be a bad call. I have 2 of these (one is for sale actually, if your interested ) and they are pretty good. Even if you are not planning to upgrade i would still say get something with a built in antenna, dont wanna mess up your nice tidy set-up with a stupid rubber thing on your desk now do ya
I did end up deciding to go for the Phenom II, I thought it would be worthwhile in case I decided to do more intensive tasks in the future.
Hmmm okay I might scrap the wireless card for now, I don't actually need one at the moment because I have my router (no N type yet!) connected to my pc via ethernet. But am thinking of moving the computer to another room at somepoint.. I might hold off from a card for the time being. I definitely don't want to mess up desk
Thanks for all your advice I'll let you know my next moves!
I noticed these look almost identical in specification but, I bought the OCZ vertex after reading the amount of problems people had with the Corsair 60GB reactor SSD's.
The two I narrowed down to was the Crucial C300 or the OCZ vertex 2e still not sure I made the right choice but, generally it is a bit faster than the Samsung F3 on boot up and shut down but, the speed really showed when installing software.
Thanks Sputnik, I still ended up going for the 60GB Corsair Force F100 as I had a google and didn't seem to find any problems with them. Looks like the reactor series were pretty buggy. I looked at the Crucial C300 as well but it has relatively slow write speed.
I actually ended up getting the phenom II x4 965, thought I might as well spend the extra £ saved from getting a slightly cheaper SSD and finding some of the other parts a bit cheaper.
Thanks for everybodies help
I'll post back on here when I have built it!
I will do, got most of the bits. Waiting for the case and motherboard though.
Quick question, will I need to buy thermal paste or will this already be applied/supplied as I am using a http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Arcti...p-to-130-Watts!
Thanks in advance
