    What 13" notebook?

    Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a new notebook. I have a 9" Toshiba NB110 and a really old 15.4" Acer, so this time I want something in the middle. Key points are:

    13" screen
Not ULV processor (I want decent clock speed)
    Good battery life

Also, I'm unlikely to go for an Acer, having seen too many fall apart and how stupidly put together mine was. And no Macbooks - I've been using the one the past couple of days and I effin hate it.

My personal favourite right now is this'un: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=26380

    Any thoughts?

The Sony Z series are nice, blindingly quick and light although they could do with being a tad more robust

Dell Vostro 3300, can be configured with a core i5-460M 2.53GHz.

    Re: What 13" notebook?

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

My thoughts are that the Macbook is too expensive (and you'll never see me dead owning an Apple product, unless something dramatically changes in the way that company operates). And that rules out the "holy crap" priced Z series, regardless of how nice they look.

The Vostro would be a contender, were it not for the lower memory than the ASUS and a few other things, but still, it was worth checking out, so thanks.

You hero! I hate people who bring in their apple products to school to gloat. 2 People had ipads today during my free period. Both of them were playing iphone games that looked woefully bad. However, back on topic I would go for the Asus in the OP personally, good keyboard cinches it for me.

That Asus does not have a good keyboard, I played with one in a shop, it flexed like it was made of cake.

Guy at work just got a Toshina Portege R700-15Q from Laptops Direct for £670, it came with a single 2GB DIMM so we just slotted in a 2nd one and now it's got 4GB, 2.26GHz i3, weighs very little and great battery. Not the most solid thing in the world, but better than I expected and less bendy that the Asus U35Jc IMHO. My only gripe was it has small keys with big gaps, I'd rather have bigger keys closer together, but that's a marmite debate...

Well exactly, as far as I'm concerned it looks a good keyboard as I don't mind flex and shallow keys are what I type best with.

    Depends on your budget.

    Asus U series
Lenovo X series (12 inch though)
    Samsung Q series
    Toshiba R series
    HP 5320m

Most uses Core i3 I think.
