NEC 2510 (Dual layer) firmware works on 2500 ?

Under UK law I believe you must have permission from the copyright holder. Saracen is the guy to ask with matters like this though, as I am not 100% certain.
Its a grey area we dont want to get into at the end of the day, but as long as people are sensible, there shouldnt be a problem

i can understand why you think it may, as my 1100a -> 1300a from + to +/-

but would it honestly work to dual layer? i think someone needs to point to a link of a webby thats tried, like a japanese one im pretty sure dual layer disks are out there and drives, so someone could test

i cant see anything that says it worked tho, very well it flashed ok, but that doesnt mean itll burn disks ok we will have to wait and see till someone actually gets some DL DVDr's

The only drive to have been tested and found working is the 2500a, the earlier drives have not been tested, although as far as i can see they are identical.

well my 1100a modded to a 1300a

so basically, its the same as a 2500a, but only writes at half the speed

so if i flashed with a 2510 bios would it be possible to write DL ? and dvd+/- at half the speed of the 2510/

i doubt it will work , but worth a go

Lite-on have also announced a Dual Layer drive the SOHW-832S, stock expeted in to us end of June (not yet confirmed). The Sony is already avaible but a bit heavy on the price from what I see.

The NEC 2500 firmware update sounds like a real bargain, but like all things you have to take care not to upset the manufacturer in terms of warranty, but for £59 your'll be laughing with a dual layer drive. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how the rest of you get on with the update and I will let you know when the dual layer disks become available. (maye be able to get in some samples for a few chaps to test)

yup, they will rocket, the time to get them is now, as there nearly hittin the 50 quid boundary, afaik there 55 quid brand new on spv, which for a dual 8x writer is good in itself

but if the firmware and installs and it wont write DL, youll feel ripped off
